Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and co-chair Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), who explained that many of the endorsement deals signed by more than a dozen NBA players occurred in 2018, before China\u2019s Uyghur abuse was made mainstream news.<\/p>\n<p>The NBA repeatedly sides with China on the communist country\u2019s human rights abuses. In 2019, the NBA caved when China canceled games because Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted \u201cStand with Hong Kong\u201d as protesters demanded democracy free from Chinese oppression. The NBA apologized for Morey\u2019s remarks and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shameful-fans-with-free-hong-kong-sign-kicked-out-of-nba-game\">removed fans<\/a> who brought a \u201cFree Hong Kong\u201d sign to games.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire has previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/more-leaked-documents-from-china-how-the-country-brainwashes-muslims-in-labor-camps\">reported<\/a>, leaked documents from the Chinese Communist Party show just how far the oppression of Muslim minorities goes. Leaks\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-china-50511063\">reviewed<\/a>\u00a0by BBC Panorama show that the re-education camps are intended to be run as prisons and not as educational facilities, as the CCP routinely claims. One nine-page memo included in the collection of documents, sent in 2017 by then deputy secretary of Xinjiang\u2019s Communist Party, Zhu Hailun, explains how the prisons should be run:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cNever allow escapes\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cIncrease discipline and punishment of behavioural violations\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cPromote repentance and confession\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cMake remedial Mandarin studies the top priority\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cEncourage students to truly transform\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201c[Ensure] full video surveillance coverage of dormitories and classrooms free of blind spots\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The documents further explained how each \u201cstudent\u201d is to have their every move controlled:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"22\">\n<p><em>The students should have a fixed bed position, fixed queue position, fixed classroom seat, and fixed station during skills work, and it is strictly forbidden for this to be changed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Implement behavioural norms and discipline requirements for getting up, roll call, washing, going to the toilet, organising and housekeeping, eating, studying, sleeping, closing the door and so forth.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Those documents also showed the terrifying \u201cMinority Report\u201d-style surveillance system China uses to incarcerate people based on the prediction that they will one day commit a crime. In one of the leaked documents, this system is shown to have flagged 1.8 million people as potential future criminals because they had the Zapya app on their phone. Chinese authorities then investigated 40,557 people who had the app installed and that \u201cif it is not possible to eliminate suspicion\u201d then send them for \u201cconcentrated training,\u201d the documents said.<\/p>\n<p>Another stash of leaked documents was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/11\/16\/world\/asia\/china-xinjiang-documents.html\">reviewed<\/a>\u00a0by The New York Times including internal documents showing how authorities in Xinjiang were to respond to college students returning home to discover their families had been sent to the labor camps.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were to respond: \u201cThey\u2019re in a training school set up by the government,\u201d and if the student pressed for more information, the authorities were to say their families were no criminals but could not leave the \u201cschools.\u201d Further, students would be threatened that their families may be held longer depending on the student\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p>Sayragul Sauytbay, who said she had been released from one of the concentration camps, talked about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/former-prisoner-in-one-of-chinas-re-education-camps-speaks-out-torture-and-rape-were-common\">rampant abuse and rape<\/a>\u00a0within the facilities.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
