The allegation is ironic, given McAuliffe\u2019s own documented history of denying the election results of 2000.<\/p>\n<p>McAuliffe on his <a href=\"https:\/\/terrymcauliffe.com\/what-virginians-saw-this-week-terry-mcauliffe-receives-endorsement-from-18-black-educators-campaigns-across-hampton-roads-calls-out-extremist-republican-glenn-youngkin-at-third-democratic-debate-a\/\">campaign website<\/a> accuses Youngkin of \u201cparroting Trump\u2019s conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/virginia-mcauliffe-youngkin-dems-2000-loss\">reported<\/a>, \u201cYoungkin has not claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Trump. He announced an \u2018election integrity task force\u2019 ahead of the gubernatorial battle, saying the issue was not a partisan one, but one related to \u2018democracy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin has also said on Fox Business that President Joe Biden was \u201clegitimately elected our president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe took the oath and was sworn in. He\u2019s sleeping in the White House,\u201d Youngkin added. \u201cHe\u2019s, unfortunately, signing executive order after executive order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compare that to comments McAuliffe made in the <em>years<\/em> after the 2000 election regarding its legitimacy. In 2001, while serving as the Democratic National Committee chairman, McAuliffe claimed Democrats had the 2000 election \u201ctaken from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur base voters are madder than heck and think they were robbed. They worked their hearts and souls out in the presidential election only to have it taken from them,\u201d McAuliffe said.<\/p>\n<p>Also that year, during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/SB981351444464456226\">an interview<\/a> with Black Entertainment Television, McAuliffe claimed Democrats \u201cwon the campaign\u201d against President George W. Bush but \u201cdidn\u2019t get the prize.\u201d He insisted that another recount would have given Florida to former Vice President Al Gore.<\/p>\n<p>McAuliffe also said at the Democratic Business Council\u2019s 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary dinner that year that \u201cWe won that election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFolks, you know it, I know it, they know it,\u201d McAuliffe said. \u201cWe won that election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than a year after the 2000 election and McAuliffe was still complaining about the 2000 election loss. From Fox News:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><em>In an article from 2002 about the Voting Rights Institute McAuliffe founded as DNC chair, the former governor claimed voters in Florida were \u201cdisenfranchised\u201d during the 2000 election.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf I ever allow what happened in Florida to occur again, I\u2019ll be thrown out as chairman of this party,\u201d McAuliffe said. \u201cI mean, there\u2019s no question that people were disenfranchised.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A spokesperson for Youngkin\u2019s campaign told Fox News that McAuliffe \u201cis the only person in this race who has suggested an election was stolen,\u201d adding that \u201cAfter more than one presidential election he disputed the outcome and cited irregularities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow McAuliffe is singing a different tune just as you would expect from a hypocritical career politician who talks out of both sides of his mouth,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p>McAuliffe has also tried to attack Youngkin for his connection to former President Donald Trump, even though McAuliffe accepted $25,000 from Trump in 2009 for his gubernatorial bid (he lost that election) and praised Trump at the 2017 National Governor\u2019s Association dinner, saying he looked forward to working with the new president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to toast you, Mr. President, and say we want to work with you on those ideals that have instilled and brought all of us governors together.
