If you tell the police you don\u2019t want to live with a man, or you\u2019re afraid or whatever, you\u2019ll get a disciplinary infraction. So you\u2019re basically punished for being scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another former inmate, Amie Ichikawa, explained that Central California Women\u2019s Facility in Chowchilla does not separate inmates based on severity of crime, due to the nature of women\u2019s facilities being significantly less violent than men\u2019s facilities. So when biologically male inmates are transferred in, they\u2019re mixed with inmates without regard for the nature of their crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all mixed together,\u201d Ichikawa said. \u201cThe people who\u2019ve murdered their children are in the same room as the people who\u2019ve stolen boxers from Walmart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0Chowchilla, there are eight women housed to a room, \u201cwith a sink and toilet inside the cell and only a cowboy door for modesty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow are you going to prevent these people from having sex?\u201d Ichikawa emphasized. \u201cAnd how do you then decipher what\u2019s sex and what\u2019s rape?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Griffin told Shrier that such gender policies have made prisons \u201cmore of a war zone\u201d (emphasis added):<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21\">\n<p><em>In Washington state, which has a similar law, one male inmate who transferred into the women\u2019s prison was a serial killer of women. \u201cThey might as well go ahead and start dropping the women off at San Quentin or Pelican Bay or one of the hard-core men\u2019s prisons,\u201d Ms. Griffin said. <strong>She added that women inside the prison are looking for ways to arm themselves. \u201cThey made it into a more of a war zone, to me, because I know women who are like, \u2018I refuse to live with a man, and if I have to make me a prison knife to defend myself, then I\u2019m going to do that.\u2019 .\u00a0.\u00a0. I mean, you know how strong men are. Imagine one woman trying to defend herself against this big ol\u2019 man, and the men coming in, they are like 6-foot-5, 6-foot-6, 300 pounds. These men look like Hercules compared to these little women. Can you fault the woman for actually trying to defend herself?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Shrier noted that the former and present inmates she spoke to said \u201cfemale guards at Chowchilla are as upset as the inmates by the law, recognizing that men are far more violent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noting that most women\u2019s prisons don\u2019t have \u201cgun coverage,\u201d \u201cmeaning officers overseeing the general population are armed only with batons and pepper spray,\u201d current female inmate Rachelle Johnson expressed worry for women\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey (officers) could get a gun, but they would have to go all the way to the front,\u201d she said. \u201cThat would really be extremely too late if something was to really happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shrier warned that the conditions for women could \u201cgo national,\u201d noting of legislation dubbed the \u201cEquality Act\u201d by Democrats (emphasis added):<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p><em>Crazy California laws occasionally go national. Take SB 132, which took effect in January. It allows transgender-identified male state prison inmates to transfer into women\u2019s prisons based on \u201cindividual preference\u201d\u2014no hormones, surgery or time spent living as the opposite sex required. Spokeswoman Terry Thornton of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says 264 male prisoners have declared a nonmale identity and formally requested transfer to women\u2019s facilities.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"paywall\" readability=\"7\">\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p><strong><em>If Congress passes the Equality Act\u2014the House already has\u2014incarcerated biological men who identify as female would be entitled to transfer into women\u2019s federal prisons and possibly also state prisons nationwide.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
