A spokesperson for Moderna also refuted the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Moderna Inc., a <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/MRNA\/?guccounter=1&#038;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&#038;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAL4S8u5zKWFlJusMY5H7HCn-YPKESCkQh0nJIY_j23htz113e2n1IJPYp5vDs2COsaCxq0j-X4PvoH7IjLdqh1uNHLIkJ-TtofUFzRWtMW-DZGyR3MZrX1cT90hLfLvAbJ1LsZkqPS29FADL8-zZNl7yZiPU-hgu65RNnfZIt7Sc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">publicly-traded<\/a> pharmaceutical company, developed a COVID-19 vaccine that received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/emergency-preparedness-and-response\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19\/moderna-covid-19-vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emergency use authorization<\/a> from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for adults in December 2020. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson &#038; Johnson COVID-19 vaccines have also been respectively authorized for emergency use by the FDA, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/emergency-preparedness-and-response\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19\/covid-19-vaccines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agency\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An image alleges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CPVXKgrNndc\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=b55bb738-0a5b-4b94-b919-4465c6c608b4https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CPVXKgrNndc\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=b55bb738-0a5b-4b94-b919-4465c6c608b4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in an Instagram post<\/a> that Trump \u201cowns half of Moderna,\u201d adding, \u201cLet that sink in Qtards.\u201d The claim, however, doesn\u2019t hold up under scrutiny. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/04\/30\/fact-check-moderna-vaccine-luciferin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does The Moderna Vaccine Contain Luciferin?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Publicly available financial information about Moderna shows no indication that Trump holds a 50-percent stake in the company. The company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/financial-information\/sec-filings?field_nir_sec_form_group_target_id%5B%5D=491&#038;field_nir_sec_date_filed_value=2021#views-exposed-form-widget-sec-filings-table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/sec-filings\/sec-filing\/def-14a\/0001308179-21-000031\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DEF-14A<\/a>, an SEC filing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/sec-form-def-14a.asp#:~:text=SEC%20Form%20DEF%2014A%2C%20also,directors%20or%20other%20business%20decisions.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">required<\/a> to be sent whenever a shareholder vote is needed, does not list Trump among its executive officers, directors and director nominees or among the beneficial owners of more than 5 percent of Moderna stock. Moderna\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/sec-filings\/sec-filing\/10-k\/0001682852-21-000006\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent 10-K filing<\/a>, an annual report that provides a comprehensive overview of the company\u2019s financials, briefly discusses some actions the Trump administration took that affected the company but otherwise contains nothing that would suggest Trump holds a 50-percent ownership stake.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that no single entity owns half of Moderna. The company\u2019s largest stockholder is the investment management company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/profile\/company\/4441Z:LN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ballie Gifford &#038; Co<\/a>, which has just over an 11-percent stake, according to Moderna\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/sec-filings\/sec-filing\/def-14a\/0001308179-21-000031\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent DEF-14A<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/quote\/shareholders\/shareholders.html?symb=MRNA&#038;subView=institutional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is also no evidence of Trump holding a significant ownership stake in Moderna in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Trump-Donald-J.-2021Termination-278.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his most recent financial disclosure<\/a> from January 2021. While much of his wealth is, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/donald-trump\/?sh=5bf5c50f47bd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes<\/a>, in real estate, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Trump-Donald-J.-2021Termination-278.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">financial disclosure<\/a> shows that included in his other holdings are three family trusts that are themselves invested in various funds.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact didn\u2019t find Moderna listed among the top 10 equity holdings for any of the funds identified in Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Trump-Donald-J.-2021Termination-278.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent financial disclosure<\/a>. At least two of the funds appear to have Moderna stock in their portfolios, but those holdings make up less than 1 percent of the funds\u2019 assets.
