Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GettyImages-962098266-1200x800-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p><span>In the latest version of a lawsuit against Google from Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, the Big Tech giant allegedly tracked user location via third-party apps \u2014 including when devices were connected to WiFi, even if the user had switched location services off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to a report by the AZ Mirror, employees of Google shared concerns that media outlets, such as The New York Times, would discover the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo there is no way to give a third party app your location and not Google?\u201d a Google employee is quoted as saying in the complaint in a previously redacted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azag.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-05\/Complaint%20%28redacted%29.pdf\"><span>section<\/span><\/a><span>, as reported by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azmirror.com\/2021\/05\/24\/newly-unredacted-documents-show-google-shared-location-with-other-apps-and-more\/\"><span>AZ Mirror<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThis doesn\u2019t sound like something we would want on the front page of the NYT.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the AZ Mirror explained, the complaint against Google \u201cis part of an <\/span><span>ongoing consumer fraud lawsuit<\/span><span> Brnovich first filed in May 2020 alleging that Google\u2019s data collection schemes violated the state\u2019s <\/span><span>Consumer Fraud Act<\/span><span>,\u201d adding that \u201clarge portions of the lawsuit were redacted by the court at Google\u2019s request.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A \u201clegal battle\u201d then ensued regarding what information could be released.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Arizona\u2019s Attorney General reportedly started the investigation into Google\u2019s practices following an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-america-science-technology-business-ap-top-news-828aefab64d4411bac257a07c1af0ecb\"><span>Associated Press<\/span><\/a><span> article from 2018 titled, \u201cAP Exclusive: Google tracks your movements, like it or not.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGoogle wants to know where you go so badly that it records your movements even when you explicitly tell it not to,\u201d reported Ryan Nakashima for AP in August 2018. \u201cAn Associated Press investigation found that many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you\u2019ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Speaking with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/google-location-tracking-employee-concerns-arizona-lawsuit\"><span>Fox Business<\/span><\/a><span>, Brnovich said that, \u201c<\/span><span>The reality is that the stuff we\u2019ve uncovered is shocking.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt just confirms that Google is doing everything it can to spy on everyone it can, without providing any sort of notice to anyone,\u201d Brnovich continued, also adding:&nbsp;<\/span><span>\u201cWe allege when consumers try to opt out of Google collecting location data, the company is continuing to find misleading ways to obtain that information and then use it for their financial advantage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Fox News, Google spokesperson Jos\u00e9 Casta\u00f1eda accused both Arizona\u2019s Attorney General and Google\u2019s competitors of \u201cmischaracterizing\u201d their \u201cservices.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Attorney General and our competitors driving this lawsuit have gone out of their way to mischaracterize our services,\u201d Casta\u00f1eda said. \u201cWe have always built privacy features into our products and provided robust controls for location data. We look forward to setting the record straight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the formerly-redacted documents, another Google employee said, \u201cI agree with the article. Location off should mean location off, not except for this case or that case.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cReal people just think in terms of \u2018location is on,\u2019 \u2018location is off\u2019 because that is exactly what you have on the front screen of your phone,\u201d another reportedly said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhat we\u2019ve uncovered so far, I believe, shows that Google themselves understand and appreciate that what they are doing is something that is sneaky and something that would piss off consumers if they knew about it,\u201d Brnovich said. \u201cSo the fact they are trying to hide what they are doing, they are being sneaky about it, and using every trick in the arsenal to stop this from seeing the light of day is all consumers need to know about Google\u2019s intentions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
