While the goal of \u201cunconscious bias\u201d training is to reveal to someone their own internal barriers to inclusivity, the goal of \u201cconscious inclusion\u201d training is to provide them with the tools to do something about it.<\/p>\n<p>So far, 45% of HCA employees at the director level or above have already completed \u201cconscious inclusion\u201d training, the mammoth hospital group&nbsp;said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cconscious inclusion\u201d training will include activities like the \u201cName That Bias\u201d card game, and will last up to two and a half hours, an outline of the training shows.<\/p>\n<p>Robin DiAngelo\u2019s \u201cWhite Fragility\u201d and&nbsp;Ibram X. Kendi\u2019s \u201cHow to Be an Antiracist\u201d were recommended to employees in a supplemental section with additional resources on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Also recommended was&nbsp;\u201cWhen They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir,\u201d which was&nbsp;co-authored by Patrisse Cullors, one of the&nbsp;founders of&nbsp;Black Lives Matter, who&nbsp;on Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/27\/black-lives-matter-co-founder-patrisse-cullors-resigns-amid-controversy\/\">announced<\/a> her resignation amid backlash over her expensive lifestyle, which includes four homes.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital group also outlined other \u201cequity\u201d commitments for this year, including&nbsp;a goal to have 35% of new hires for management and supervisor roles be people of color.<\/p>\n<p>HCA also announced a new sponsorship program \u201cfor a select cohort of Black colleagues to accelerate advancement in leadership.\u201d&nbsp;The program was recommended by HCA\u2019s Black Senior Leadership Council, which was established last year and spearheaded diverse talent recruitment initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital group is also pledging to invest $300,000 in grants for community partners \u201csupporting social justice and health equity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, HCA\u2019s Chief Diversity Officer Sherri Neal&nbsp;announced a new program where HCA pledged to match employees\u2019 donations to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Black Lives Matter Foundation, the National Urban League, and \u201cother nonprofits that support racial justice and address health equity for communities of color.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether the donations went to the actual Black Lives Matter movement or the \u201cBlack Lives Matter Foundation,\u201d an unaffiliated&nbsp;charitable organization with one paid employee and a completely different goal of&nbsp;\u201cbringing the community and police closer together,\u201d according to its founder. A slew of companies and organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/ryanmac\/black-lives-matter-foundation-unrelated-blm-donations\">mistook the group<\/a> for the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation last summer.<\/p>\n<p>HCA did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The Nashville-based health care group operates at least 185 hospitals and about 2,000 health care sites in the U.S. and Britain, including&nbsp;surgery centers, urgent care centers, diagnostic and imaging centers, and walk-in clinics. It is the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.definitivehc.com\/top-10-largest-health-systems\">largest<\/a> health system in the U.S. both by net patient revenue and by member hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s equity goals make HCA the latest health care group to ramp up its equity initiatives in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the American Medical Association (AMA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/american-medical-association-releases-plan-to-embed-racial-justice-in-medical-profession\">released<\/a> a lengthy \u201canti-racist\u201d plan detailing the organization\u2019s ambitious plan to \u201cembed racial justice\u201d in the medical profession.<\/p>\n<p>The AMA\u2019s plan pushes for expanding medical school education to include \u201ccritical race theory,\u201d \u201canti-racism,\u201d and \u201cequity-explicit\u201d training.<\/p>\n<p>The American Heart Association (AHA)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahajournals.org\/doi\/10.1161\/CIR.0000000000000936\">adopted<\/a>&nbsp;a similar anti-racist ideology,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/medical-professor-warned-colleagues-that-schools-racial-preferences-were-illegal-and-he-was-removed-from-directorship-now-hes-suing\">prompting<\/a>&nbsp;a lawsuit last year over disciplinary action taken against an Asian American doctor who questioned whether using race in admissions decisions is legal.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, medical schools have adopted dramatic affirmative action policies in order to matriculate a \u201ccritical mass\u201d of black applicants, who tend to score lower on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) than their white and Asian counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Such policies have raised concerns among members of the medical community that lowering standards for those providing life-saving care could have dangerous consequences.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
