He was reportedly one of the agents involved in the Waco siege and massacre in 1993, an accusation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/powerpost\/david-chipman-looks-to-become-the-second-permanent-head-of-the-atf-in-15-years\/2021\/05\/25\/bae71380-bd8d-11eb-b26e-53663e6be6ff_story.html\"><span>disputed<\/span><\/a><span> by Leftist outlets. After the ATF attempted to serve a search and arrest warrant at Mount Carmel Center ranch in Axtell, Texas \u2014 home to Branch Davidians, a religious sect \u2014 a fierce gunfight ensued. After 51 days, a siege ended with the Mount Carmel Center engulfed in flames as federal agents stormed the building. The fire resulted in the deaths of 76 members of the sect, including 25 children and two pregnant women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9454603\/Biden-ATF-nominee-anti-gun-lobbyist-Waco-lied-cult-shooting-helicopters.html\"><span>Daily Mail<\/span><\/a><span> reported, Chipman later \u201cblatantly\u201d lied about the events that transpired during the siege. \u201c<\/span><span>Notably, Chipman falsely claimed in a 2020 Reddit post that during the Waco standoff between Branch Davidian religious sect members and ATF agents that cult members shot down two helicopters \u2014 something that blatantly did not happen,\u201d wrote the Daily Mail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In one answer during an \u201cAsk Me Anything\u201d Reddit thread, \u201cChipman said during the ATF standoff with the Branch Davidians, \u2018cult members used 2 .50 caliber Barretts to shoot down two Texas Air National Guard helicopters.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the Daily Mail noted, Chipman was also involved in the 11-day \u201cRuby Ridge\u201d standoff in 1992.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe event started because a man, Randy Weaver, received three conflicting court dates for a bench warrant related to firearms charges. He suspected there was a conspiracy against him and refused to surrender when government agents came down on him,\u201d the Mail explained. After federal agencies, including the ATF, became involved, Weaver and his three daughters surrendered, but \u201c<\/span><span>Weaver\u2019s 14-year-old son, his wife Vicki and their dog were all killed by Marshals and FBI agents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dudley Brown, the President of the National Association for Gun Rights, referenced Chipman\u2019s role in ATF scandals as part of the reason why his nomination would be deeply problematic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDavid Chipman has been on the leading edge of ATF scandals for decades, all the way back to Waco \u2014 and now he shills for gun confiscation with Gun Control Inc.,\u201d Brown said, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/biden-gun-control-atf-david-chipman-assault-weapons-nra\"><span>Fox News<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cChipman has embraced every hair-brained gun control scheme proposed, so of course Biden and Harris chose him \u2014 he\u2019ll fit right in with their corrupt administration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Not only is Chipman\u2019s alleged scandal-laced history a concern, he became an outspoken gun control activist in the years following his ATF service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>His most recent employer \u2014 Giffords, part of a gun safety organization founded by Rep. Gabby Giffords \u2014 has pushed this year for stripping gun manufacturers of protection from lawsuits if their guns are used in crimes, requiring permits for the purchase of all types of guns, and limiting magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition,\u201d reported The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/who-is-david-chipman-bidens-pick-to-lead-atf\"><span>Washington Examiner<\/span><\/a><span>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Listed as a \u201cGiffords Expert,\u201d Chipman is <a href=\"https:\/\/giffords.org\/people\/david-chipman\/\">described<\/a> as a \u201csenior policy advisor\u201d at the gun control advocacy group, and is an outspoken advocate for gun control, particularly regarding so-called \u201cassault weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Chipman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/04\/08\/985198566\/biden-to-nominate-gun-control-advocate-law-enforcement-veteran-to-lead-atf\">spoke<\/a> before the House Judiciary Committee on the subject of mass shooting events, and spoke of finding a balance between his view of gun rights and the prevention of gun violence as one between \u201cthe rights of individuals and the rights of all Americans, and a human right not to get shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur nation\u2019s current gun violence crisis has made two things very clear: one, it is far too easy for violent people to get their hands on violent weapons,\u201d he said. \u201cTwo, the American people overwhelmingly want Congress to act now to make their communities safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chipman was also a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/heres-why-david-chipman-is-a-terrible-choice-for-atf-director\/\">lobbyist<\/a> for former presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg\u2019s \u201cEverytown for Gun Safety\u201d initiative.
