Following backlash over the report, Biden released a statement saying he was increasing pressure on the Intelligence Community to find the origins of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate unanimously passed a bill on Wednesday from Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Mike Braun (R-IN), which was introduced in April, that forces the Biden administration to declassify intelligence related to any potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and the origins of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>A new report published this week by The Wall Street Journal stated that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) \u2014 China\u2019s only Biosafety level-4 laboratory \u2014 were hospitalized in November 2019 with symptoms consistent with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe details of the reporting go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the final days of the Trump administration, which said that several researchers at the lab, a center for the study of coronaviruses and other pathogens, became sick in autumn 2019 \u2018with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness,\u2019\u201d The Wall Street Journal&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/intelligence-on-sick-staff-at-wuhan-lab-fuels-debate-on-covid-19-origin-11621796228\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe disclosure of the number of researchers, the timing of their illnesses and their hospital visits come on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organization\u2019s decision-making body, which is expected to discuss the next phase of an investigation into Covid-19\u2019s origins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s time that the American people got to decide for themselves,\u201d Hawley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article251711818.html\">said<\/a> in a Wednesday floor speech. \u201cIt\u2019s time that they actually got to see the evidence that the United States government has collected on this issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough many scientists, including former CDC Director Robert Redfield, have been outspoken about the possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic began with a lab leak, the media and others have denied that possibility from the beginning,\u201d Braun <a href=\"https:\/\/www.braun.senate.gov\/hawley-braun-bill-declassify-lab-leak-intel-passes-senate\">said<\/a>. \u201cNow that it is clear that the lab leak theory is completely viable, Americans need real answers. We will not get those answers from another botched investigation from the World Health Organization, or more cover-ups by China\u2019s Communist regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans have been through so much from this virus. Many of us have lost friends and loved ones, many have lost businesses they\u2019ve spent their lives building,\u201d Braun added. \u201cPresident Biden must declassify all U.S. intelligence related to any link between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the COVID-19 pandemic, so that independent researchers and the American people can get answers.
