Within seconds they were in his car,\u201d WAGA-TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/theives-steal-car-mayoral-candidate-antonio-brown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne kid was in the driver\u2019s seat,\u201d Brown told the station. \u201cBen attempted to open the door to get him out of the car. He fought with Ben. I then engaged and tried to get him out of the car. The three other kids were trying to figure out how to get in the car or stay out of the car. He started to hit on the gas. Ben let go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Brown said he held on and got dragged a short distance before he let go.&nbsp;\u201cAs he started to speed up, and I knew that if I had not let go, I knew I probably could have killed myself because he was going so fast, I would have started to tumble. And I would have hurt him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Norman also told the station what happened.&nbsp;\u201cWe tried to go there and maybe try to get the kid out of the car. So, I\u2019m like, what do you do to a kid, right?\u201d said Norman. \u201cHe had already starting figuring out\u2026 I mean they had plans, they knew what they were going to do. He hit the gas and he pulled out, peeled out, and took off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened along Verbena Street in northwest Atlanta about 11:45 a.m., police said. \u201cAt this time, officers are gathering information on exactly how this happened and working to identify anyone involved in the incident and locate the stolen vehicle,\u201d police said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/city-councilmans-car-stolen-while-attending-ceremony-in-nw-atlanta\/6OID7FPTVJE35HITXYEHNKVCIM\/\">according<\/a> to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Brown was among council members who voted to withhold $73 million of the Atlanta Police Department\u2019s budget, although the ordinance was voted down.<\/p>\n<p>The mayoral candidate said he doesn\u2019t plan on filing charges against the alleged thieves, Atlanta\u2019s WSB-TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/atlanta\/city-councilman-says-he-was-carjacked-northwest-atlanta\/KQXGH47TF5GZNH37Z4NY2GD3V4\/\">reported<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201cThis is a generational poverty issue. These kids, it\u2019s 12:30 in the afternoon. Why aren\u2019t they in school? Why aren\u2019t we enforcing systems to ensure that if they are not in school, they\u2019re in recreational centers?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Brown was indicted last July on federal fraud charges over alleged incidents before he took his council seat in 2019. He was indicted on multiple fraud charges \u201cin connection with Brown\u2019s attempts to defraud several financial institutions by taking out loans and making credit card purchases \u2013 and then falsely claiming that he was the victim of identity theft and was not responsible for the charges or repaying the loans,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndga\/pr\/atlanta-city-councilman-antonio-brown-has-been-indicted-attempting-defraud-several\">said<\/a> the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor years, Antonio Brown allegedly sought to defraud a number of banks and credit card companies by falsely claiming that he was the victim of identity theft,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Byung Pak. \u201cBrown\u2019s scheme was eventually brought to light, resulting in his indictment by the grand jury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Curl covered the White House for a dozen years and ran the Drudge Report for four years.
