The report also highlighted how a Chinese scientist was booted out of Canada for allegedly shipping deadly viruses to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and how the lab appears to have tried to steal intellectual property for Remdesivir.<\/p>\n<p>The report also highlighted how Sina Bavari, the former chief scientific officer of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), planned to attend Shi during the emerging infectious diseases conference in September 2019:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"30\">\n<p><em>Shi was a speaker and Bavari, who sat on the scientific committee, was planning to give a talk. Bavari had paid for his flights and organized his Mozambique visa when he withdrew from the conference 10 days before, emailing organizers to apologize and offer to give his lectures by FaceTime or WhatsApp.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bavari originally told The Australian he did attend the conference, saying Shi gave a presentation on bat coronaviruses and that he hadn\u2019t noticed anything unusual about her that week. \u201cThere was nothing that rang any bells,\u201d he said. Five days later, Bavari said he remembered that he had attended in 2018, not 2019. It does not appear that Shi flew to Tofo in 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Shi did attend the 2019 conference, held from September 1 to 5. \u2026 <\/em><em>A week later, on September 12, the Wuhan Institute of Virology virus database was taken offline. It has not been published since and has not been made available to World Health Organization investigators, who did not ask for it during their Wuhan visit earlier this year. Shi has claimed the virus database was taken offline after 3,000 hacking attempts.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Markson also highlighted how the Wuhan Institute of Virology just disclosed several days ago the genomic sequences of eight new viruses that are closely related to SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.005730659026\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It&#8217;s a disgrace the Wuhan Institute is still selectively disclosing new viruses with high genetic sequences to SARS-CoV-2.<br \/>Their virus database should have been provided to health authorities a year ago.<br \/>Instead, the WHO didn&#8217;t even ask for it! Watch this:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pLb21VBv9N\">https:\/\/t.co\/pLb21VBv9N<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IBmMAjXfXA\">https:\/\/t.co\/IBmMAjXfXA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sharri Markson (@SharriMarkson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SharriMarkson\/status\/1396005764104294404?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report also highlighted the editorial board of Dr. Shi\u2019s virology journal, Virologica \u00adSinica, which includes members of the Chinese military, the Chinese scientist kicked out of Canada for allegedly shipping deadly viruses to the lab, as well as other top scientists and two employees from USAMRIID:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p><em>One concerned member of the editorial board is award-winning virologist Xiangguo Qiu, who was escorted out of a Canadian laboratory in July 2019 after being caught sending deadly virus samples back to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Qiu, her husband Kedin Cheng and her students from China were removed from Canada\u2019s only BSL-4 laboratory amid an official investigation. Four months earlier, a shipment containing highly virulent viruses \u2014 ebola and nipah \u2014 were sent from her laboratory to China. It was reported that the Wuhan Institute of Virology had requested the shipment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chemical and biological warfare specialist Dany Shoham, from the Begin-Sadat Centre for Strategic Studies, wrote an article claiming Qiu had made at least five trips over the academic year 2017-18 alone to the Wuhan \u00adNational Biosafety Laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Canadian media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/canadian-scientist-sent-deadly-viruses-to-wuhan-lab-months-before-rcmp-asked-to-investigate-1.5609582\">reported<\/a> that the viruses that were shipped were not related to the COVID-19 pandemic and that Canadian officials claimed Qiu\u2019s eviction from the lab was not connected to the virus shipments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is suspicious. It is alarming. It is potentially life-threatening,\u201d Amir Attaran, a law professor and epidemiologist at the University of Ottawa, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/manitoba\/canadian-scientist-sent-deadly-viruses-to-wuhan-lab-months-before-rcmp-asked-to-investigate-1.5609582\">CBC<\/a>. \u201cWe have a researcher who was removed by the RCMP from the highest security laboratory that Canada has for reasons that government is unwilling to disclose. The intelligence remains secret. But what we know is that before she was removed, she sent one of the deadliest viruses on Earth, and multiple varieties of it to maximize the genetic diversity and&nbsp;maximize what experimenters in China could do with it, to a laboratory in China that does dangerous gain of function experiments. And that has links to the Chinese military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Markson\u2019s report also highlighted how America\u2019s highly secretive biological research site at Fort Detrick became the \u201csuspected victims of intellectual property theft from scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p><em>In collaboration with Gilead Sciences of Foster City, they had success in 2015 with a treatment that blocked the ebola virus\u2019s ability to replicate. The treatment was an antiviral compound called GS-5734 that became known as Remdesivir. Bavari was one of the scientists behind this antiviral treatment. The drug was touted as a potential treatment option for Covid-19 five years later.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The patent for commercial use of Remdesivir was filed in China. The application was made by the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The institute lodged the patent application on January 21, 2020 \u2014 one day after China confirmed human-to-human transmission of the virus, The Daily Mail reported. Asked about this, Bavari said he was not aware the Wuhan \u00adInstitute of Virology had lodged the patent for Remdesivir.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Markson\u2019s report comes as the U.S. mainstream media has rapidly shifted the narrative on the Wuhan Institute of Virology and whether the coronavirus pandemic originated from an accident at the lab. Initial reports and claims that the lab was the likely origin of the pandemic were dismissed as conspiracy theories, however, the media now treats the theory as credible and legitimate since the Trump administration is no longer in office.<\/p>\n<p>A new report published this week by The Wall Street Journal stated that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) \u2014 China\u2019s only Biosafety level-4 laboratory \u2014 were hospitalized in November 2019 with symptoms consistent with COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe details of the reporting go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the final days of the Trump administration, which said that several researchers at the lab, a center for the study of coronaviruses and other pathogens, became sick in autumn 2019 \u2018with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness,\u2019\u201d The Wall Street Journal&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/intelligence-on-sick-staff-at-wuhan-lab-fuels-debate-on-covid-19-origin-11621796228\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe disclosure of the number of researchers, the timing of their illnesses and their hospital visits come on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organization\u2019s decision-making body, which is expected to discuss the next phase of an investigation into Covid-19\u2019s origins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-biden-admin-shut-down-probe-launched-during-trump-era-to-examine-wuhan-lab-leak-theory-report-says\">reported<\/a> on Tuesday that the Biden administration shut down an effort launched during the Trump administration to investigate whether the lab was the origin of the pandemic outbreak.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
