(AP Photo\/Becky Bohrer, file)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 10:47 AM PT \u2013 Tuesday, May 25, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>A group of GOP lawmakers from Alaska are applauding Joe Biden for helping out the state\u2019s cruise industry in a rare act of bipartisanship.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Biden signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/press\/release\/alaska-tourism-restoration-act-signed-into-law-\">Alaska Tourism Restoration Act<\/a> to temporarily allow American cruise ships to sail directly from Washington State to Alaska without having to dock in Canada. The law is meant to be a stopgap measure allowing vessels to subvert current law mandating they have to dock at foreign ports when they enter foreign waters.<\/p>\n<p>Back in February, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended a ban on international cruise ships through February 2022. GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) said this became a rallying point for bipartisan support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that motivated a lot of people, even beyond Alaska, saying hey we\u2019re not going to let Canada dictate who can visit another state in America,\u201d he stated. \u201cSo this bill essentially bypasses Canada\u2026by the way unanimous in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act\u2014allowing cruise ships to sail to AK\u2014is on its way to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a>. Thx to my colleagues for helping Alaskans in need\u2014small business owners who were on the brink or ruin. To America: Alaska is open!
