Nothing,\u201d National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation (NRTW) President Mark Mix told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If the PRO Act is enshrined into U.S. law, millions of workers across the country would automatically start paying dues, even if they don\u2019t want to, Mix said.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which President Joe Biden has endorsed, would mainstream labor unions\u2019 illegal dues collection practices, according to worker and business groups.<\/p>\n<p>The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act would enable labor unions to grow in size and, therefore, collect more dues, the groups said. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/842\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">legislation\u2019s provisions<\/a>&nbsp;legalize dues collection practices, which are currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/your-right-to-work-rights-in-three-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">illegal<\/a>&nbsp;nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat this bill is about is giving union officials dramatic new powers over employees. Nothing,\u201d National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation (NRTW) President Mark Mix told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cIt\u2019s all about union officials getting more power to corral more workers into unions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unions have rallied in favor of the PRO Act because of their rapidly declining membership, Mix added. Just 11% of U.S. workers were members of a labor union as of January compared to 20% about 40 years ago, according to Department of Labor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/union2.nr0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/12\/trade-unions-support-joe-biden-promise-keystone-pipeline-executive-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Trade Unions Refuse To Answer Why They Supported Biden Despite His Years Of Promising To Take Down Keystone)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Labor unions would receive about $20 billion per year in union dues, $9 billion more than they receive now, if the PRO Act is signed into law, according to a recent Institute for the American Worker <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/07\/labor-unions-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-joe-biden-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a>. (Pete Marovich\/Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe [PRO Act] aims to boost the number of dues paying union members, padding the coffers of union bosses at the expense of workers, small and local businesses, entrepreneurs and Main Street consumers,\u201d Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW) Chair Kristen Swearingen said in a statement to the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican workers and small business owners would be forced to hand over their hard-earned paychecks to labor bosses or lose their jobs, despite the rampant corruption tied to unions,\u201d she said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/21\/pro-union-labor-laws-joe-biden-promised-pass-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Here Are The Pro-Union Labor Laws Joe Biden Has Promised To Pass As President)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The House <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/house-pro-union-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-business-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> the PRO Act mainly along party lines in March, but the bill faces a tough roadblock in the Senate where it needs 60 votes to pass because of the filibuster. Biden said he would sign the bill and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/03\/09\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-on-the-house-taking-up-the-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">urged lawmakers<\/a> to quickly send it to his desk.<\/p>\n<p>Unions slammed the filibuster and demanded that the Senate changes its procedural rules to pass the legislation. The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, a federation of more than 55 unions representing 12.5 million workers, <a href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/about\/leadership\/statements\/senate-rules-cannot-be-used-block-workers-first-agenda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">denounced the filibuster<\/a> after the House passed the PRO Act, saying the \u201cvery survival of our democratic republic\u201d was at stake.<\/p>\n<p>Ending the filibuster to pass the PRO Act is \u201cvital,\u201d International Union of Painters and Allied Trades organizer Ryan Kekeris <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/03\/what-is-the-pro-act.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the Intelligencer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for Senators to stop hiding behind outdated rules and procedures like the filibuster and to pass the PRO Act,\u201d Communications Workers of America President Chris Shelton said in a March <a href=\"https:\/\/cwa-union.org\/news\/releases\/pro-act-gives-workers-tools-regain-power-in-their-workplaces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7199124\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"33\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7199124\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7199124 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/GettyImages-1198808357-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka speaks during a press conference advocating for the PRO Act in 2020. (Samuel Corum\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s in the PRO Act?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PRO Act would repeal the so-called right-to-work laws that exist in 27 states, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/research\/labor-and-employment\/right-to-work-laws-and-bills.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The laws allow private sector workers to choose whether they\u2019d like to join a union even if a unionization election succeeds at a workplace.<\/p>\n<p>If the PRO Act is enshrined into U.S. law, millions of workers across the country would automatically start paying dues, even if they don\u2019t want to, Mix said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/07\/labor-unions-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-joe-biden-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Labor Unions Would Rake In $9 Billion More From Dues If PRO Act Is Passed: Report)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The PRO Act] would dramatically increase unions\u2019 dues harvest by orders of magnitude by simply repealing Right to Work laws,\u201d Mix said. \u201cUnions don\u2019t have to do anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In states without right-to-work laws, workers who voted against unionization must join a union and pay dues if the majority of their fellow workers voted in favor.<\/p>\n<p>The PRO Act would also introduce card check elections, or the process of unionizing a workforce without a formal secret ballot election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/card-check-learn-basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Chamber of Commerce. For example, workers\u2019 private information will be more easily accessible for organizers attempting to unionize a business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s perfectly safe to say that there\u2019s privacy issues involved,\u201d he told the DCNF. \u201cAnd that\u2019s a very serious matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NRTW has filed complaints against union organizers who have showed up to a worker\u2019s home late at night and who obtained the private information of a potential union member\u2019s mother, Mix said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/26\/kamala-harris-labor-union-white-house-task-force-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Kamala Harris To Chair New White House Task Force Encouraging Labor Union Membership)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition, the PRO Act allows \u201csecondary boycotts,\u201d or the union practice of protesting an employer&nbsp;that does business with a company resisting unionization. It also opens up the possibility of the government forcibly establishing a contract between a union and business if the two parties cannot come to an agreement within a set amount of time, <a href=\"https:\/\/edlabor.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Section%20by%20Section%20-%20PRO%20Act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the House Education and Labor Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, the legislation\u2019s changes to labor law would lead to more union members, Americans for Fair Treatment researcher Suzanne Bates told the DCNF in an interview. (Mandel Ngan\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe like to think of them as membership organizations, but their ties to the political left have become so extreme that their mission seems to have shifted from doing what\u2019s best for their members to doing what\u2019s best for their friends \u2013 politicians,\u201d Bates said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen the politicians turn around and make it easier for the unions to bargain and organize,\u201d she said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/05\/business-worker-trades-groups-reintroduction-union-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Business, Pro-Worker Groups Denounce Reintroduction Of Pro-Union PRO Act)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A series of ongoing litigation, which firms like NRTW have brought before the National Labor Relations Board, has shown that unions actively try to increase dues-paying members using many means.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the NRTW are currently representing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/newsletter-articles\/workers-nlrb-blocking-policy-05102021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bus drivers<\/a> in Virginia attempting to decertify a union, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/baisley-cert-petition-05242021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">United Airlines employee<\/a> that doesn\u2019t want his dues money used for his union\u2019s \u201cpolitical and ideological activities,\u201d a Delaware <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/cruz-sosa-surveillance-appeal-05182021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">farmer<\/a> who alleges he was intimidated by the union he is attempting to decertify and Michigan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrtw.org\/news\/rieth-riley-appeal-dues-05132021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction workers<\/a> denied the ability to resign from the union under the state\u2019s right-to-work law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnions are failing workers,\u201d Bates told the DCNF. \u201cThey\u2019re failing workers in the public sector, they\u2019re failing workers in the private sector.
