The price reportedly went up considerably in the later hours of its auction on Sunday.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Two anonymous accounts were going head-to-head for the NFT. The account \u201c3fmusic\u201d won out in the end, offering a higher bid than the \u201cmememaster\u201d account for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM\"><span class=\"s1\">clip<\/span><\/a> which has been watched over 880 million times since it was uploaded to Youtube in 2007.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the BBC, the auction page for the NFT noted that the winner will be able to \u201crecreate a hilarious modern-day rendition of the classic clip\u201d that will include \u201cthe original stars, Harry and Charlie.\u201d The auction site reportedly added that it is time for the boys \u2014currently aged 17 and 15 \u2014 to \u201cembrace the next iteration of the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe clip had been due to be removed from the video sharing platform on 23 May, following the auction \u2013 but at the moment&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM\"><span class=\"s1\">it\u2019s still there<\/span><\/a>,\u201d the BBC reported.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">NFTs function as certifications that confirm someone owns something that is in a digital format. It allows for someone who owns an original version of a viral video, tweet, or meme to sell it like art. For viral videos, the process can be quite profitable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\" data-component=\"text-block\" readability=\"35.227969348659\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\" readability=\"44.655172413793\">\n<p>According to the BBC\u2019s analysis, \u201cAn NFT is a bit like a collectible certificate of authenticity, but its owner does not actually buy the copyright itself \u2013 meaning the artwork the NFT represents can still be shown wherever the original artist or creator chooses. This means it\u2019s an unusual move for the creators of Charlie Bit My Finger to choose to remove their video from YouTube.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/advisor\/investing\/nft-non-fungible-token\/\">Forbes<\/a> explained the craze around NFts, as well, reporting:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><em>So why are people willing to spend millions on something they could easily screenshot or download?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Because an NFT allows the buyer to own the original item. Not only that, it contains built-in authentication, which serves as proof of ownership. Collectors value those \u201cdigital bragging rights\u201d almost more than the item itself.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/24\/arts\/charlie-bit-my-finger-nft-auction.html\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> that in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SR9P21TgrjI\"><span class=\"s2\">an interview with the two brothers in 2017 on The Morning, a British talk show<\/span><\/a>, their father, Howard Davies-Carr, said he was recording the boys growing up \u201cjust doing normal things\u201d and that Charlie bit his brother\u2019s finger while watching T.V. after spending the day in the garden.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe video was funny, so I wanted to share it with the boys\u2019 godfather,\u201d Howard Davies-Carr said, noting that their godfather lived in the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The video was private at first, but several people, including his parents, had asked to see it since it was hard to distribute, so he made it open for public viewing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A few months later, the video had garnered at least 10,000 views, but Howard Davies-Carr said he almost deleted it. \u201cProfits from the video and other opportunities allowed the family to send Charlie, Harry and their two other brothers to private school, said Shelley Davies-Carr, the boys\u2019 mother. The viral video with humble beginnings, which Charlie and Harry decided to sell, helped Shelley Davies-Carr stop working full-time when her fourth child was born,\u201d the outlet reported.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI was just watching TV and just decided to bite him,\u201d Charlie Davies-Carr said in the interview. \u201cHe put his finger in my mouth, so I just bit.\u201d Harry Davies-Carr couldn\u2019t recall the pain from his brother\u2019s bite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/how-non-fungible-tokens-and-blockchain-are-changing-the-art-and-music-worlds\"><span class=\"s1\">analysis<\/span><\/a> written for The Daily Wire, Harry Khachatrian explained the attraction to the NFT world and the authenticity behind it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21.748858447489\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Blockchain, the same technology that has allowed cryptocurrencies to take the financial world by storm, has now made its way into a new market: art. An NFT is a digital certificate of authenticity that says&nbsp;this&nbsp;image&nbsp;is the original. Though the image itself can be replicated, the token cannot.
