In a Facebook post, Wilder called the late pro-Israel advocate Sheldon Adelson a \u201cnaked mole rat.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn one week, I will be attending Jewish Voice for Peace\u2019s Return to Birthright protest outside of Taglit-Birthright Israel\u2019s fundraising gala with far-right, pro-Trump, naked mole rat looking billionaire [Sheldon] Adelson,\u201d Wilder wrote.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2017, Wilder helped run a \u201cReturn the Birthright\u201d rally in NYC, which the Stanford College Republicans claims \u201cden[ied] the Jewish people of their own right to self-determination.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Return the Birthright cause was created by Jewish Voice for Peace, an organization that believes Jewish people are occupying Palestinian territory. Their website claims that they want to \u201cReturn the Birthright because it\u2019s unjust that we get a free Birthright trip, while Palestinian refugees can\u2019t return to their homes.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.019867549669\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Recently, we discovered that the Associated Press has hired former Stanford anti-Israel agitator, Emily Wilder, who referred to the late Sheldon Adelson as a &#8220;naked mole rat&#8221; as one of their &#8220;journalists.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vv1lder?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@vv1lder<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZxtF8XhuHn\">pic.twitter.com\/ZxtF8XhuHn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Stanford College Republicans (@Stanford_GOP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Stanford_GOP\/status\/1394452686003654656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Wilder also promoted the idea that Jews \u201cethnically cleansed\u201d Palestinians from Judea and Samaria. In August 2018, she also defended the threats made by Hamzeh Daoud, a Stanford residential student who threatened to \u201cphysically fight Zionists on campus.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A spokeswoman for the AP told the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/ap-hires-anti-israel-activist-as-news-associate\/\"><span>Washington Free Beacon<\/span><\/a><span> that it \u201crequires employees to abstain from political activity.\u201d Three days before her termination, Wilder said that \u201cobjectivity\u201d felt \u201cfickle\u201d with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2018Objectivity\u2019 feels fickle when the basic terms we use to report news implicitly stake a claim,\u201d Wilder <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vv1lder\/status\/1394073763289829378\"><span>tweeted<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cUsing \u2018israel\u2019 but never \u2018palestine,\u2019 or \u2018war\u2019 but not \u2018seige and occupation\u2019 are political choices \u2014 yet media make those exact choices all the time without being flagged as bias.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On May 19, Wilder was fired for violating the company\u2019s media policy \u201cduring her time at AP.\u201d Wilder told the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/media\/2021\/05\/20\/emily-wilder-associated-press-palestine\/\"><span>Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span> that she was devastated.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The AP has been the subject of criticism after the Israeli military uncovered that the outlet was allegedly housed in the same office building as the terrorist group Hamas. The outlet condemned the Israeli military for striking the office building and claimed that the Jewish state had a \u201crocky relationship\u201d with the international media.&nbsp;<\/span><span>The AP <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-middle-east-business-israel-palestinian-conflict-fe452147166f55ba5a9d32e6ba8b53d7\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span>:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p><i><span>Twelve AP staffers and freelancers were working and resting in the bureau on Saturday afternoon when the Israeli military telephoned a warning, giving occupants of the building one hour to evacuate. Everyone was able to get out, grabbing a few belongings, before three heavy missiles struck the 12-story building, collapsing it into a giant cloud of dust.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Although no one was hurt, the airstrike demolished an office that was like a second home for AP journalists and marked a new chapter in the already rocky relationship between the Israeli military and the international media.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In the following days, right-leaning outlets such as Fox News, The Federalist and The Washington Free Beacon published stories condemning the AP for hiring an anti-Israel activist amid the turmoil in the Middle East.
