(AP Photo\/Tsafrir Abayov)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 7:08 AM PT \u2013 Friday, May 21, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>The Israeli government agreed to halt its counter-terror operation in the Gaza Strip following days of rocket strikes from Hamas against Israel.<\/p>\n<p>According to the White House on Thursday, the Israeli cabinet negotiated a ceasefire with Hamas through Egyptian mediators with the sides \u201cagreed in principle\u201d to pause mutual hostilities after 11 straight days of fighting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu informed me that Israel has agreed to mutual, unconditional ceasefire to begin in less than two hours,\u201d announced Ezzat el-Reshiq, a member of the Hamas Political Bureau. \u201cThe Egyptians have now informed us that Hamas and the other groups in Gaza have also agreed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ceasefire reportedly took effect in Israel at 2:00 a.m. local time. Under the terms of the agreement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it will resume the anti-terror operation if Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Prime Minister Netanyahu informed me that Israel has agreed to a mutual, unconditional ceasefire.
