From Lou Piniella to Bobby Cox, Major League Baseball has a storied history of managers throwing legendary temper-tantrums in front of 40,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Martinez became a legend on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p><span>Martinez is no stranger to exiting games early \u2014 in 2019, he became the first manager ejected from a World Series game since Bobby Cox in 1996&nbsp; \u2014 and he added to his impressive resume on Wednesday with an all-timer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the seventh inning of Wednesday\u2019s game, Trea Turner of the Nationals struck out on a pitch that got away from Chicago Cubs catcher Wilson Contreras. Turner took off for first but was ruled out of the baseline by first-base umpire Chris Conroy as Contreras\u2019 throw went into right field.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And Martinez lost it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.7142857142857\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dave Martinez with an early candidate for ejection of the year<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VoYIWXqJo5\">pic.twitter.com\/VoYIWXqJo5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RotoGrinders (@RotoGrinders) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RotoGrinders\/status\/1395201498963918853?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>After the game, Martinez continued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/news\/dave-martinez-ejection-postgame-rant\/bmfj4n16gnmh12j329mm7c9f5?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">venting<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"22\">\n<p><em><span>Honestly, I am beside myself right now with this whole out-of-the baseline thing. I think it\u2019s awful. There\u2019s two parts to the rule, I get it. The second part of the rule is the judgment call. For me, it\u2019s a bad judgment, plain and simple. If you want to run on the other side of the baseline, put the base over there, plain and simple. I argue that all the time. But if he\u2019s running straight down the line, and the catcher makes a bad throw, what do you do? What do you do? He didn\u2019t even run hard, and he made it to first base, and he\u2019s going to come out and call him out? I\u2019m over it. Really, I\u2019m over it. I\u2019m tired of it. I\u2019m going to argue 1,000 times when that happens, I really am. I\u2019m sick of it. You guys saw it. It\u2019s a brutal call. And I\u2019m done hiding it. I don\u2019t know what they\u2019re going to do about it, but it\u2019s awful. And it wasn\u2019t just today. I\u2019ve seen it go on and on and on. They need to do something about it.&nbsp;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>It\u2019s not the first time Turner has been called out for impeding the ability of the fielder to field the ball. Martinez\u2019s 2019 World Series ejection stemmed from another bang-bang play at first base involving Turner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Trea Turner called out on interference, a breakdown\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NP0tk0NvYFw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s bad, it\u2019s just bad,\u201d Turner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/dave-martinez-ejected-throws-first-base\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> after Wednesday\u2019s game. \u201cI know they\u2019re trying out there and this and that and they\u2019re trying to do their job, but that\u2019s just, it\u2019s terrible. It\u2019s bad, and I think that was worse than Game 6.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI mean, running in a straight line to the base, I don\u2019t know why I would bother doing anything different,\u201d Turner added. \u201cIt comes down to a bad throw. If the guy makes a bad throw, then you\u2019re out, and if he doesn\u2019t, then you\u2019re either safe or out.
