Pramila Jayapal appeared to suggest Israel was partly to blame for the ongoing conflict with Gaza while speaking on CNN Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper asked Jayapal what the appropriate type of response should be from the Israeli government, noting <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/12\/hamas-leader-calls-beheading-jews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hamas<\/a> began indiscriminately firing rockets at Israel more than a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell we condemn Hamas\u2019 firing of those rockets but I think you have to look at what prompted even that behavior,\u201d Jayapal said, appearing to shift the blame onto Israel. \u201cI think there was you know the continued annexation that Israel has been undertaking for years.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.7848837209302\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal says the US has to do everything it can to work toward a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Jayapal joined a Congressional resolution disapproving the arms sale between Israel and the US. \u201cI do not think that this is the moment for it.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H8QB9waE0j\">pic.twitter.com\/H8QB9waE0j<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Lead CNN (@TheLeadCNN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheLeadCNN\/status\/1395132256327553024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a pattern of action from Israel that frankly has taken away the idea even of a two-state solution, and has led to increased hopelessness from the Palestinian people,\u201d she said. &nbsp;\u201cI think what Hamas has done is \u2013 obviously we condemn that \u2013 but we have to look at the power balance here, or imbalance as it were, and we have to put more responsibility on Israel in maintaining peace in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other members of Congress have appeared to shift most of the blame to Israel as well. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/20\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-israel-palestine-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: FLASHBACK: Ocasio-Cortez Admits She Has No Clue What She\u2019s Talking About Immediately After Attacking Israel)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said President Joe Biden \u201creinforces the false idea that Palestinians instigated this cycle of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"12.535714285714\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">By only stepping in to name Hamas\u2019 actions \u2013 which are condemnable \u2013 &amp; refusing to acknowledge the rights of Palestinians, Biden reinforces the false idea that Palestinians instigated this cycle of violence.<\/p>\n<p>This is not neutral language. It takes a side \u2013 the side of occupation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1392603320066400266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 12, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders published an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/14\/opinion\/bernie-sanders-israel-palestine-gaza.html?referringSource=articleShare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">op-ed<\/a> in The New York Times where he also appeared to shift the blame from Hamas to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should also understand that, while Hamas firing rockets into Israeli communities is absolutely unacceptable, today\u2019s conflict did not begin with those rockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/20\/bernie-sanders-joins-ocasio-cortez-tlaib-block-735-million-arms-sale-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sanders<\/a> pointed to the Sheikh Jarrah evictions and claimed \u201cthose evictions are just one part of a broader system of political and economic oppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Sanders goes on to say there is no excuses for Hamas, he quickly points to Israel as being too authoritative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of this excuses the attacks by Hamas, which were an attempt to exploit the unrest in Jerusalem, or the failures of the corrupt and ineffective Palestinian Authority, which recently postponed long-overdue elections,\u201d Sanders wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the fact of the matter is that Israel remains the one sovereign authority in the land of Israel and Palestine, and rather than preparing for peace and justice, it has been entrenching its unequal and undemocratic control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Michigan Rep. Ilhan Omar retweeted a clip of Israeli politician Ofer Cassif who also blamed Israel for the recent conflict. It said, \u201cNetanyahu ignited a fire to maintain his rule.
