President Joe Biden has been an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/08\/white-house-biden-15-minimum-wage-cbo-unemployed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outspoken advocate<\/a> for raising the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour since entering office, arguing that every American deserves a \u201cliving wage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one in America should work 40 hours a week making below the poverty line,\u201d Biden said during Jan. 22 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/01\/22\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-american-rescue-plan-and-signing-of-executive-orders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">remarks<\/a> at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>CEA Chair Cecilia Rouse said that she was committed to reducing income inequality in the U.S. during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eQdXFU4hUfM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">speech<\/a> accepting her nomination in December. (Brendan Smialowski\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pay Our Interns and Next100 <a href=\"https:\/\/payourinterns.org\/call-to-action-president-biden-should-fund-internships-across-federal-agencies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote a letter<\/a> to Biden, urging him to order federal agencies to pay their interns. The groups said unpaid internships harm young people who have real financial obligations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration has the opportunity to invest in young people, foster a more diverse and inclusive federal workforce, and build pathways to public service by expanding paid internship opportunities throughout the government,\u201d Pay Our Interns Executive Director Carlos Mark Vera said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/payourinterns.org\/call-to-action-president-biden-should-fund-internships-across-federal-agencies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Reps. Chrissy Houlahan and Tim Ryan have both <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepHoulahan\/status\/1336334721966596096\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">asked<\/a> Biden to pay White House interns. Ryan led the successful 2019 effort to pay Capitol Hill interns up to $1,800 per month, The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/paid-internships-are-a-reality-again-in-congress-after-public-shaming\/2019\/03\/12\/ff371f54-44e9-11e9-94ab-d2dda3c0df52_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden was the only Democratic presidential candidate who offered only unpaid internships to work in his campaign, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/elections\/presidential\/caucus\/2019\/08\/26\/2020-democratic-campaigns-paying-interns-minimum-wage-biden-unpaid-internships-warren-sanders\/1808214001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Des Moines Register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/04\/27\/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-issues-an-executive-order-to-raise-the-minimum-wage-to-15-for-federal-contractors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed an executive order<\/a> increasing the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15 per hour.
