Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) clearly called out the legacy media\u2019s bias during a tense exchange with \u201cMeet the Press\u201d host Chuck Todd over the weekend. Todd invited Crenshaw to discuss Liz Cheney\u2019s removal as House Republican Conference Chair, but then accused the GOP of \u201ctrying to appease\u201d former President Donald Trump by \u201crallying around this bizarre lie and mythology\u201d that the 2020 presidential election may have been marked by voter irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou guys in the press love doing this, and I, and I get it, right?\u201d Crenshaw said. \u201cThe press is largely liberal. They\u2019re largely pro-Democrat.\u201d The media, he said, had \u201clots of reasons to keep this alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people in my party that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-guest-refuses-to-take-the-bait-contradicts-don-lemon-on-slavery\">take the bait<\/a>. I\u2019m not going to take the bait,\u201d Crenshaw concluded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, no, no, no. Don\u2019t start that,\u201d said a clearly triggered Todd. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing lazier than that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crenshaw, who is not known as a particularly combative partisan, said he was \u201ca little surprised\u201d to be invited to address the issue, \u201cbecause I\u2019ve been so detached\u201d from Cheney\u2019s leadership vote.<\/p>\n<p>He began by saying in a roundabout way that media bias caused reporters to focus on inside-the-Beltway \u201cdrama\u201d and ignore issues that matter to the American people. \u201cI\u2019m always meeting with people. I never get asked about this,\u201d Crenshaw said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><em>I get asked about: Why is there rising inflation? Why is there a border crisis? What is going on in the Middle East? Why can\u2019t we get gas? What is happening to our energy infrastructure? Why can\u2019t I hire people? Why are they getting paid by the government to stay at home instead of come to work? These are things that really affect people, not this internal drama.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOne of the reasons I agreed to come on your show is basically to say that this isn\u2019t that important to people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Todd interpreted this as questioning the legacy media\u2019s objectivity and responded accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, why should anybody believe a word you say if the Republican Party itself doesn\u2019t have credibility?\u201d Todd retorted. \u201cDo any of your critiques come across as credible if you can\u2019t accept the fundamental fact that our democracy held a free and fair election?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A bemused Crenshaw couldn\u2019t believe the question. In the past, he had <a href=\"https:\/\/crenshaw.house.gov\/2021\/1\/dan-crenshaw-statement-on-impeachment\">called<\/a> Trump\u2019s call for Congress to reject slates of pro-Biden electors \u201cdemonstrably unconstitutional\u201d and said that the \u201cpressure campaign \u2026 contributed, in part, to the assault on the Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Todd pivoted to Crenshaw signing an <em>amicus<\/em> brief in support of Texas\u2019 Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-texas-files-lawsuit-against-4-states-at-supreme-court-over-election-rules\">case<\/a>, which accused four states of \u201cignoring both state and federal law\u201d in setting 2020 presidential voting guidelines. Crenshaw then alluded more directly to media bias:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p><em>You guys in the press painted that as some extreme action, and of course it wasn\u2019t. That amicus brief was a simple question of the Supreme Court in saying, \u201cCan you please speak to this question of whether, of whether process changes in the election last minute, not approved by the legislature, can be deemed constitutional?\u201d It was a question. Now, they didn\u2019t want to answer that question. And I said \u2014 and then I said it\u2019s unconstitutional for us to overturn the election in Congress. So, I did not vote to object. I voted to certify [the 2020 presidential election].<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When Todd claimed that the entire Republican Party tries to \u201cappease\u201d the former president, Crenshaw replied, \u201cI already debunked the notion that there\u2019s no space in the party for\u201d opposition to Trump by noting that Liz Cheney won a vote to retain her House leadership position in February.<\/p>\n<p>After Todd tried to get Crenshaw to call Trump \u201cthe legitimate leader of the Republican Party,\u201d Crenshaw called the former president \u201cone of many leaders in our party.\u201d Determining which politician has the legitimacy to act as the leader of a political movement depends on \u201ccomplex human relationships that involve millions of people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not think Trump is the devil,\u201d Crenshaw said. \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s Jesus, either.\u201d He instead promised to evaluate former President Trump\u2019s statements on an issue-by-issue basis. \u201cI\u2019m going to agree where I agree, and I\u2019m going to disagree where I disagree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd objected to the idea that \u201csomehow we in the press are bringing that up,\u201d when President Trump regularly discusses the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>While the former president continues to discuss the 2020 election, there\u2019s no doubt that the legacy media do more to keep the issue at the forefront of its viewers\u2019 minds. President Trump\u2019s favorite means of communication, Twitter, has permanently banned both his personal and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/twitter-quickly-suspends-trumps-new-from-the-desk-of-account\">new website<\/a>\u2019s accounts, and he has rarely made media appearances since leaving office before Joe Biden\u2019s inauguration on January 20.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, MSNBC and CNN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-talked-about-liz-cheney-four-times-more-than-the-israel-hamas-conflict\">number-one story<\/a> last week was Liz Cheney\u2019s ouster from the third-most-important position in the second-most-important chamber of Congress. CNN spent just four minutes on the Israel-Gaza conflict in its entire prime time lineup last week. Last Wednesday, CNN devoted 151 minutes to Cheney\u2019s removal and 55 minutes on all the unfolding, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gas-lines-inflation-rising-unemployment-return-under-biden\">Carter-era<\/a> economic crises, including hour-long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-america-gas-stations-in-multiple-states-run-out-of-fuel-sparking-panic\">lines<\/a> to purchase gasoline and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-economy-inflation-hits-highest-levels-since-great-recession-soars-past-economists-expectations\">highest inflation<\/a>in 13 years.<\/p>\n<p>Todd, too, has made extreme and polarizing statements about anyone who raises any question about the 2020 election. When Cornell Belcher said on last week\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d &nbsp;that the Cheney voted signaled that America may be dividing into \u201ctwo parties\u201d of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chuck-todd-agrees-democrats-and-republicans-becoming-patriots-and-traitors\">traitors and patriots<\/a>,\u201d Todd replied, \u201cI fear, Cornell, that myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet as Todd badgered Crenshaw for \u201cputting this on the press,\u201d Crenshaw replied that he wished Republicans would focus on winning issues:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><em>If former President Trump asked me, I would say, \u201cMr. President, please keep talking about the border. Please keep talking about these issues.\u201d That\u2019s what I would say to him, for sure. \u2026 You\u2019ve got a great show. You\u2019ve got a lot of listeners. Let\u2019s debate environmental policy. Let\u2019s debate healthcare policy, border policy.
