The unaltered version was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Conflict broke out between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas starting on May 10, with the groups firing ordnance at each other, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2021\/05\/17\/israel-gaza-conflict-latest-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a> reported. Palestinian medical officials have reported over 220 deaths, and Israeli officials have reported over 10, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/ceasefire-still-elusive-israel-gaza-conflict-2021-05-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Facebook, users are sharing an image that purportedly shows the Egyptian government projecting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/search\/palestinian+flag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Palestinian flag<\/a> onto the three pyramids in Giza at night. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PalestinianStreetNews\/photos\/a.473378803129245\/1122074728259646\/?type=3&#038;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">One Facebook page<\/a> sharing the picture wrote, \u201cEgypt showing the flag of Palestine on the pyramids. Thank you Egypt!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A reverse image search revealed the image being shared online amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has been digitally altered. Check Your Fact found the <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%AA_%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B6%D9%88%D8%A1_%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA_%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%8A%D8%B2%D8%A9.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unaltered version<\/a> on Wikimedia Commons, where a user named Ayah Ahmed uploaded it in 2014.\u00a0The two versions were shot from the same angle, though the Palestinian flag has been superimposed onto the pyramids in the Facebook image.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%AA_%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B6%D9%88%D8%A1_%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA_%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%8A%D8%B2%D8%A9.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikimedia Commons description<\/a> of the unaltered photo roughly translates to \u201c<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Arabic: Sound and Light \u2013 The Pyramids of Giza,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/?sl=ar&#038;tl=en&#038;text=%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A9%3A%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%AA%20%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B6%D9%88%D8%A1%20-%20%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%8A%D8%B2%D8%A9&#038;op=translate&#038;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Translate<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/05\/18\/fact-check-video-fire-explosion-killed-hundreds-jewish-people-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show Fire From An Explosion That Killed Hundreds Of Jewish People In Israel?)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>False claims about flags being projected onto the Giza Pyramids have previously circulated on social media. For example, the fact-checking website Misbar <a href=\"https:\/\/misbar.com\/en\/factcheck\/2020\/08\/05\/pyramids-didnt-light-up-in-solidarity-with-beirut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debunked<\/a> another photo photoshopped to make it seem like Egypt lit up the pyramids with the Lebanese flag last year after an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-middle-east-53668493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explosion<\/a> killed over 200 people in Beirut.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt has said it will allocate $500 million to help with reconstruction efforts in Gaza, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/egypt-allocate-500-mln-gaza-rebuilding-effort-presidency-2021-05-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>.
