The misplaced pitch immediately silenced the home crowd and Webb appeared near tears as he watched blood pour from the nose of a crumpled Pillar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cBlood coming out of the nose of Pillar, who was struck flush by that pitch,\u201d Mets play-by-play man Gary Cohen said on the call. \u201cIt forces in a run but the concern is for Pillar, and you can see the concern on the face of Jacob Webb.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"11.514018691589\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kevin Pillar got hit in the face by a Jacob Webb fastball. <\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, he walked off under his own power. <\/p>\n<p>Still, a frightening scene nonetheless. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6kPINtKIYn\">pic.twitter.com\/6kPINtKIYn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Field (@RyanFieldABC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanFieldABC\/status\/1394465136493146120?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>After the Mets\u2019 3-1 victory, manager Luis Rojas said that Pillar had left the field to go to the hospital for a CT scan. On Tuesday morning, the Mets announced that Pillar suffered multiple nasal fractures from the pitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Pillar did send a tweet Monday night letting everyone know that he was \u201cdoing fine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.38\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thanks to everyone that has reached out! Scary moment but I\u2019m doing fine! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RBI?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RBI<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/gamewinner?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#gamewinner<\/a> \ud83d\udc4d\ud83c\udffd\ud83d\udc4d\ud83c\udffd<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin Pillar (@KPILLAR4) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KPILLAR4\/status\/1394494840851812352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s real scary,\u201d Mets catcher James McCann said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/31462397\/depleted-new-york-mets-place-michael-conforto-jeff-mcneil-il-hamstring-injuries\">ESPN<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe gets hit by the pitch and the last thing on my mind is going to touch home plate,\u201d McCann <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/17\/photos-mets-snap-skid-after-kevin-pillar-beaning\/\">continued<\/a>. \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are definitely with him and that\u2019s just a scary moment. You wonder if he\u2019s OK. The thought of standing in the box, the normal person doesn\u2019t realize how fast that ball is coming in there and how quick you have to react. It was just one of those things, that ball looked like it was chasing him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>The play clearly affected the Braves, and Webb had to be pulled from the game. Similar instances in the past have impacted pitchers mentally for years, even to the point where careers have been altered. Webb was seen being <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gifs_baseball\/status\/1394469609026293760?s=20\">consoled<\/a> in the dugout by Braves pitching coach, Rick Kranitz.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat was enough, right there. I don\u2019t want the kid [Webb] to continue after that,\u201d Braves manager Brian Snitker said when asked about pulling Webb. \u201cI just hope that kid [Pillar] is ok. That was ugly and everybody keep him in your prayers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s about as sickening a thing as you can see on the baseball field, when a kid gets hit like that,\u201d Snitker continued. \u201cI just keep that kid in my prayers and hopefully everything works out ok. This guy is nothing but a pro \u2014 the way he carries himself, the way he plays the game. He\u2019s a gamer and a true pro.
