Liz Cheney has been indicted for \u201ctreason and other high crimes against America and its citizenry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence Cheney has been indicted for \u201ctreason and other high crimes\u201d by the Navy. A Department of Defense spokesperson denied such an indictment against the congresswoman had been filed.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cheney, who has criticized former President Donald Trump on multiple occasions, was recently removed from her leadership position among the House Republicans, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/liz-cheney-removed-gop-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS News<\/a>. Liz Cheney (R-WY) from her House leadership post, and she pledged to make sure Donald J. Trump never gets \u2018near the Oval Office again,\u2019 the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General\u2019s Corps drafted a sealed indictment charging her with treason and other high crimes against America and its citizenry,\u201d the May 13 Facebook post reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence Cheney has actually been indicted for the charges described in the Facebook post. Neither the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Justice<\/a> nor the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jag.navy.mil\/news.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General\u2019s Corps<\/a> has published an announcement of the supposed indictment on its website. However, the Constitution\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/browse\/essay\/amdt5_1_2\/#:~:text=No%20person%20shall%20be%20held,the%20same%20offence%20to%20be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fifth Amendment<\/a> states, \u201cNo person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger.\u201d While a military commission can, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/browse\/essay\/amdt5_1_2\/#:~:text=No%20person%20shall%20be%20held,the%20same%20offence%20to%20be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Constitution.Congress.gov<\/a>, try citizens or \u201calien enemy belligerents\u201d for \u201coffenses against the laws of war\u201d in some cases, there is no indication Cheney fits either category.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post appears to lift from a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2021\/05\/military-indicts-liz-cheney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 13 article<\/a> published by the website Real Raw News titled \u201cMilitary Indicts Liz Cheney.\u201d The website includes a Disclaimer on its \u201cAbout Us\u201d page that <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">says<\/a> the site \u201ccontains humor, parody, and satire.\u201d Though Real Raw News contains the <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">disclaimer<\/a>, the Facebook post does not mention that.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact has previously debunked viral false claims that originated on Real Raw News, including the allegation that members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/05\/07\/fact-check-members-joint-chiefs-of-staff-overthrown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">overthrown<\/a> in a \u201ccoup\u201d of the Pentagon and that Trump authored an <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/04\/08\/fact-check-donald-trump-indictment-amy-coney-barrett\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">indictment<\/a> of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A post shared on Facebook claims Republican Wyoming Rep.
