Farrow maintains that her former step-father \u201cgroomed her\u201d and then abused her while he was married to actress Mia Farrow. Allen denies the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>At the time Barrymore starred in the romantic comedy, she said the great career \u201ccalling card\u201d in the mid-1990s was to have made a film with Woody Allen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI worked with Woody Allen. I did a film with him in 1996 called, \u2018Everyone Says I Love You,\u2019 and there was no higher career calling card than to work with Woody Allen,\u201d Barrymore told Farrow, as reported by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/drew-barrymore-dylan-farrow-woody-allen-1234954550\/\"> The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> (THR). \u201cThen I had children, and it changed me because I realized that I was one of the people who was basically gaslit into not looking at a narrative beyond what I was being told. And I see what is happening in the industry now and that is because of you making that brave choice. So thank you for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Farrow thanked Barrymore for her change of heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHearing what you just said, I am trying not to cry right now,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is just so meaningful because it\u2019s easy for me to say, \u2018Of course you shouldn\u2019t work with him; he\u2019s a jerk, he\u2019s a monster,\u2019 but I just find it incredibly brave and incredibly generous that you would say to me that my story and what I went through was important enough to you to reconsider that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After watching the HBO docuseries, \u201cAllen v. Farrow,\u201d which chronicled Woody Allen and Mia Farrow\u2019s battle over custody of then-adolescent Dylan and explored Dylan\u2019s allegations of sexual abuse, Dylan Farrow said she discovered a newfound respect for her mother, Mia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would\u2019ve loved to have been able to watch the series with her,\u201d Farrow said. \u201cAt the time, that just wasn\u2019t possible; we were in separate quarantine pods, unfortunately. I really heard everything from her after the fact. It was just a very strange pathway that we navigated separately and together, but I think it definitely changed a lot about how me and my mom relate to each other and interact with each other, and I think there\u2019s a very renewed level of just respect, just woman to woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since 1993, Dylan Farrow has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kristof.blogs.nytimes.com\/2014\/02\/01\/an-open-letter-from-dylan-farrow\/?mtrref=www.google.com&#038;assetType=opinion\" data-beacon=\"{\"p\":{\"lnid\":\"stood by her accusation\",\"mpid\":3,\"plid\":\"https:\/\/kristof.blogs.nytimes.com\/2014\/02\/01\/an-open-letter-from-dylan-farrow\/?mtrref=www.google.com&#038;assetType=opinion\"}}\" data-beacon-parsed=\"true\" data-rapid-parsed=\"slk\" data-rapid_p=\"3\" data-v9y=\"1\" data-ylk=\"subsec:paragraph;cpos:2\">maintained<\/a>\u00a0that Woody Allen sexually molested her while he dated her mother, Mia Farrow. Allen has emphatically denied the accusation, claiming that Mia coached Dylan as part of a vicious custody dispute. The charges were ultimately dismissed by authorities and Moses Farrow, Dylan\u2019s brother,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/woody-allens-adopted-son-claims-mia-farrow-brainwashed-him-and-was-physically-abusive-report\/\">has defended Allen\u2019s innocence<\/a> while claiming that his mother Mia was the abusive parent.<\/p>\n<p>Woody Allen and his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, denounced the HBO docuseries as a \u201cshoddy hit piece,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/22\/arts\/television\/woody-allen-soon-yi-previn-hbo.html\">according to The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese documentarians had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their enablers to put together a hatchet job riddled with falsehoods,\u201d a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement issued through Allen\u2019s sister, Letty Aronson. \u201cWoody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and given only a matter of days \u2018to respond.\u2019 Of course, they declined to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs has been known for decades, these allegations are categorically false,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cMultiple agencies investigated them at the time and found that, whatever Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse had ever taken place. It is sadly unsurprising that the network to air this is HBO \u2013 which has a standing production deal and business relationship with Ronan Farrow.
