The Minnesota governor has not signed a bill legalizing recreational use of marijuana at this time.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>17 states and the District of Columbia have legalized varying amounts of marijuana for recreational use by adults, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/research\/civil-and-criminal-justice\/marijuana-overview.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Council of State Legislatures<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/04\/16\/fact-check-daunte-wright-arrest-warrant-marijuana-fine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Viral Image Claims Daunte Wright Had An Arrest Warrant For A Marijuana-Related Fine)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.state.mn.us\/people\/cannabis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">medical marijuana use<\/a> has, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/irisdorbian\/2021\/05\/14\/minnesota-lawmakers-inch-closer-to-legalizing-cannabis\/?sh=5b3c61ca7013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forbes<\/a>, been legal in Minnesota since 2014, it is inaccurate to say the state recently legalized it overall. Nonetheless, multiple Facebook posts have in recent days been claiming the state legalized marijuana for recreational use.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota House of Representatives on May 13 considered a bill that would allow adults to possess 10 pounds of marijuana at their homes or 2 ounces in public, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/minnesota-house-casts-historic-vote-to-legalize-marijuana\/600056701\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Star Tribune<\/a>. The Minnesota House, which is Democratic controlled, ended up passing the bill on a 72-61 vote, the outlet reported. While the House passed the bill, it would need to be approved by the Minnesota Senate and signed by the governor before it became law, per the Minnesota Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.mn\/publications\/billlaw.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/governor\/news\/legislation.jsp\">search<\/a> of Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz\u2019s website showed no instance of him signing a bill legalizing recreational marijuana on May 13. Waltz most recently signed three bills on May 6, a week before the bill was heard in the House. None of the three bills he signed legalized recreational use of marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-controlled Senate has said it would not take up the bill, effectively ending its chances of becoming a law during this session of Minnesota\u2019s Congress, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/minnesota-bills-government-and-politics-9d427c31eb6e5bc3c90299b78243fa7b\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka said the bill was \u201cup in smoke,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/minnesota.cbslocal.com\/2021\/05\/14\/recreational-marijuana-bill-house-approves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS Minnesota<\/a>, and Republican House Minority Leader said the bill has \u201cno chance of becoming law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota has decriminalized possession of marijuana of 42.5 grams or less, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/norml.org\/laws\/minnesota-penalties-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NORML<\/a>, an organization that supports marijuana legalization.
