What\u2019s going on?\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Sweeny: Just making sure you guys are safe.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Camacho: I know we had a situation yesterday with a student, is that what you\u2019re talking about?\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Sweeny: Uh that, but this is just the area that I work. Just making sure that you guys are okay.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Camacho: Okay. Alright. We\u2019re fine. We\u2019re good.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Sweeny: Do you like having us come in?\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Camacho: If I know the scope of what you\u2019re doing \u2026 Do you connect with the kids? What do you do?\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Sweeny: Just make sure you guys are okay \u2026 If it makes you uncomfortable having us walk in, then you\u2019re welcome to call the Chief\u2019s office and just ask us not to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Sweeny: You\u2019re not going to hurt my feelings. If you don\u2019t want me walking through, I won\u2019t come through your school.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>Camacho: Yeah. I think for now let\u2019s hold off until I have a conversation with the Chief.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>At the end of the video, Sweeny called in Camacho\u2019s request and described the interaction to a colleague. \u201cYou\u2019ll be disgusted,\u201d Sweeny said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Camacho is the CEO of the South Bend Empowerment Zone which oversees four South Bend elementary schools and one middle school. The organization was created in 2019 to help struggling schools in the South Bend Community School Corporation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wsbt.com\/news\/local\/south-bend-empowerment-zone-reviewing-policy-after-police-patrol-school-unannounced\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> to local media, South Bend Empowerment Zone said that they want all adults who come into the building to align with their mission, including the police.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSouth Bend Empowerment Zone is responsible for ensuring that ALL of our children feel safe and supported at school. Given the demographics of the students we serve, it is critical that every adult who interacts with a child in our buildings is aligned to our vision, mission, and core beliefs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The organization went on to say it wants to control interactions for non-emergency situations between police and students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p><i><span>Physical and emotional safety is foundational to a strong school experience. We support the building of bridges, but building bridges requires multiple stakeholders \u2026 We stand ready to have additional conversations to ensure our shared and aligned vision for non-emergency interaction and contact between the police, students, and staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The South Bend Police Department could not comment on the footage, though it is conducting an internal review.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe South Police Department is aware of an interaction between one of our officers and the CEO of the South Bend Empowerment Zone,\u201d police department spokeswoman Christine Karsten said. \u201cAt this point, we cannot comment further on that interaction as we are currently in the inquiry stage internally.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
