Nine-year-olds will be taught about how racism is deeply embedded in the Rochester community and encouraged to partake in activism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the curriculum, obtained by The Daily Wire, fourth-grade students must be able to \u201cunderstand, discuss, and identify examples of racism, segregation, and anti-racism.\u201d Students were shown pictures of children protesting as an example of \u201canti-racism.\u201d The children held signs that read, \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d and \u201cNone of us is free until all of us are free.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_223698\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"32\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-223698\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-223698\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Kids-Protesting-Fairport--300x187.png\" alt width=\"600\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/05\/Kids-Protesting-Fairport--300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/05\/Kids-Protesting-Fairport--768x480.png 768w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/05\/Kids-Protesting-Fairport-.png 884w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-223698\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>via Fairport Central School District<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Children were also told that New York schools are the \u201cmost segregated schools in the country.\u201d In the proceeding slides, students were shown housing segregation maps of Monroe County \u2014 the county that houses FCSD \u2014 and were asked to identify how redlining has affected where they live. The redlining maps provided to students were from 1935.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The curriculum also asks students to observe the role that the government played in segregating communities and showcased local \u201canti-integration\u201d protests that took place at the University of Rochester.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As an \u201cexit ticket\u201d idea for teachers, fourth-graders were asked to watch a video to \u201creflect on how we as fourth graders can be antiracists\u201d and what \u201cproblem(s) in our school or community that [they] want to change.\u201d One example showed a picture of three young girls with the caption, \u201cBailey, Khaliat, and Simra meeting with their principal to address their concerns about hiring more black teachers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The curriculum was created by the PathStone Foundation, the fundraising arm of a corporation that \u201cpromotes social justice through programs and advocacy.\u201d The curriculum is titled, \u201cUntaught History: Structural Racism &#038; Resistance Curriculum.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In January 2020, the PathStone Foundation met with the FCSD school board. The school board said they were not interested in integrating the curriculum into schools. In June 2020, members of the Fairport community kickstarted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/the-fairport-central-school-district-diversify-the-curriculum-of-the-fairport-central-school-district\"><span>Change.org petition<\/span><\/a><span> demanding that the school reconsider and adopt PathStone\u2019s curriculum. By July, the school board had caved to activists and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/the-fairport-central-school-district-diversify-the-curriculum-of-the-fairport-central-school-district\/u\/27306815\"><span>integrated<\/span><\/a><span> PathStone\u2019s curriculum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Local school board candidate Stacy Schell told The Daily Wire that the curriculum is inherently political and integrates critical race theory into the district.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCritical race theory, elementary sexual education, and pure division of our students and teachers have created an environment that is toxic for our children,\u201d Schell said. \u201cI believe that teachers need to be teachers. They need to focus on getting our children back to basics and promoting self-worth. Politics should be left out of the schools.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A Fairport parent, who spoke to The Daily Wire on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said that the curriculum is making white children feel guilty for the color of their skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe received a letter from our child\u2019s school stating their fourth-grade class would be discussing the history of redlining in Rochester \u2026 [My child] said they ended the week by watching a video indicating white kids should feel guilty for being white,\u201d the parent said. \u201cI want my kids to understand the history of racism, but I completely reject that any child should be made to feel guilty for something they have never done.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fairport Central School District did not respond to request for comment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
