He carried the state in 2016 and 2020, and both the vacated seat of Republican Sen. He will be retiring from Congress when his current term ends in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been some speculation that Trump\u2019s daughter-in-law <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/23\/lara-trum-2022-senate-north-carolina-donald-richard-burr-mark-walker-pat-mccrory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lara will run<\/a> for the vacated Senate seat. Other candidates who have already jumped into the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/28\/north-carolina-senate-race-ted-budd-republican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hotly-contested GOP primary<\/a> include former Rep. Mark Walker, former Gov. Pat McCrory and current Rep. Ted Budd. Republican Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/29\/thom-tillis-diagnosed-prostate-cancer-surgery-north-carolina-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thom Tillis<\/a> narrowly won reelection in 2020 by just under two points.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is expected to resume holding his rally events starting in the summer. He won\u2019t be the only high-profile speaker at the NCGOP convention, though \u2014 Republican South Dakota Gov.
