Christopher Warnagiris of the Marine Corps was charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers, as well as obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder and obstruction of justice, The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/riots-capitol-siege-lifestyle-arrests-government-and-politics-149824215b905079243928dfd318ea2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.1339285714286\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Active-duty Marine Major Christopher Warnagiris, based at Quantico, was arrested in Virginia for assaulting federal officers at the Capitol. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vh7TdReT4d\">pic.twitter.com\/vh7TdReT4d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan J. Reilly (@ryanjreilly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ryanjreilly\/status\/1392888767325814786?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Warnagiris reportedly appeared in videos from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and could be seen fighting with a police officer, as well as helping others trying to get into the Capitol building,\u00a0The Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/active-duty-us-marine-corps-officer-arrested-assault-federal-law-enforcement-officer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">alleged<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claimed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/press-release\/file\/1393941\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">court documents<\/a> that Warnagiris, dorning a dark jacket, tan gloves, and a military green backpack, pushed through the police line protecting the Capitol and inside the building.<\/p>\n<p>He helped others get inside by using his body to keep the door open and pulled people inside while a Capitol Police officer attempted to shut the door, the court documents alleged.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI was tipped off to Warnagiris\u2019 alleged involvement in the Capitol Riot in March by a former coworker who recognized him in photographs of the incident, according to The Associated Press.
