Franchisees of the company reportedly compose 95% of its restaurant base.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Other food chains including Chipotle, which said Monday that it will increase employees\u2019 pay to an average of $15 per hour by the end of June, have raised wages in recent months. Darden Restaurants, the owner of Olive Garden and other chains, said earlier this year that it will give workers $12 per hour including tips by 2023. Amazon, Costco, and other big companies have also said they will increase pay in recent weeks, per the outlet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/chipotle-says-menu-prices-could-increase-if-minimum-wage-hike-imposed\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> last month, Chipotle previously said that it might need to increase the prices of its menu options if there is a mandatory increase to the minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/chipotle-will-raise-burrito-prices-if-a-15-minimum-wage-passes-2021-4\"><span class=\"s1\">Business Insider,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Jack Hartung, Chipotle\u2019s CFO, spoke of the effect of a $15 minimum wage during the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/stocks\/chipotle-digital-sales-doubled-first-quarter-earnings-2021-4-1030330611\"><span class=\"s1\">company\u2019s quarterly earnings call<\/span><\/a>. \u201cHe said hourly employees\u2019 average minimum wage is about $13 per hour, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.com\/Hourly-Pay\/Chipotle-Crew-Member-Hourly-Pay-E15228_D_KO9,20.htm#:~:text=How%20much%20does%20a%20Crew,estimated%20based%20upon%20statistical%20methods.\"><span class=\"s1\">Glassdoor<\/span><\/a>\u00a0indicated that a starting hourly wage at Chipotle is about $11,\u201d the outlet reported.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019re not that far off of, for example, a $15 number. But let\u2019s say, for example, that there\u2019s going to be an across-the-board 10% increase in our wages,\u201d Hartung said. \u201cAnd that would, to offset that with menu pricing, take us 2% to 3% price increase,\u201d he explained.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">McDonald\u2019s said Thursday that its hourly wages will go up an average of 10% over the next couple of months to $13 per hour, increasing to $15 per hour by 2024. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics\u00a0<\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.nr0.htm\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>said<\/i><\/span><\/a><i>\u00a0that nearly 10 million Americans, 9.8 million to be exact, remained unemployed in Biden\u2019s economy. The April jobs report missed projections for the number of new jobs expected by more than 700,000 jobs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Restaurant chains are making adjustments to their wages as lawmakers have tried to increase the minimum wage across the country over the past several months. Last month, President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/more-executive-orders-biden-raises-minimum-wage-to-15-for-federal-contractors-including-tipped-workers\"><span class=\"s1\">issued<\/span><\/a> an executive order to raise the minimum wage to $15 for federal contractors and expanded a previous Obama-era executive order to apply the minimum wage to tipped employees working on federal contracts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/more-executive-orders-biden-raises-minimum-wage-to-15-for-federal-contractors-including-tipped-workers\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> by The Daily Wire, conservatives have pushed back on raising the minimum wage to $15, citing it as a move that will ultimately harm workers and businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shapiro-debunking-the-15-minimum-wage\">Daily Wire\u2019s Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro\u2019s \u201cDebunked\u201d<\/a><\/span> piece explained the $15 minimum wage. Shapiro discussed Thomas Sowell\u2019s concept that the true minimum wage is zero, not what the government says the minimum wage is, due to the fact that artificially raising the minimum wage can put people out of work and minimize the jobs that are available.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Shapiro wrote, \u201cThe Congressional Budget Office recently evaluated Joe Biden\u2019s plan for a $15 federal minimum wage, and what they found is that over the course of the next few years, it would improve the salaries for some 900,000 people, but it would put 1.4 million people out of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Jobs that pay a minimum wage are also often the first job that a person takes when they are getting started in life. As Shapiro noted, \u201cA quarter of minimum wage workers are under the age of 25. In fact, 8% of all teenagers are working for minimum wage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These jobs typically lead to other jobs and provide a pathway for people to improve their quality of life.
