Another would encourage the news programs to be developed by departments, not the administration, and the third would endorse faculty members\u2019 voluntary participation in their own \u201canti-racism and bias\u201d programs.<\/p>\n<p>A week ago, Cornell\u2019s Faculty Senate \u201cvoted to approve the creation of an anti-racism center on campus,\u201d National Review reported.<\/p>\n<p>William A. Jacobson, a clinical law professor at Cornell Law School, told the National Review that he does not approve of the proposals currently working their way through the Faculty Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am unequivocally against mandates. I do not accept what the university and much of academia, I believe, misleadingly calls anti-racism,\u201d Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobson noted to the outlet that \u201canti-racism,\u201d as is being taught to students and faculty from books like Ibram X. Kendi\u2019s \u201cHow to be an Anti-Racist,\u201d actually calls for new discrimination to remedy past discrimination. Jacobson told National Review that being an anti-racist insists that people who \u201chave the traditional American civil rights notion that we treat people based upon the content of their character, not the color of their skin\u201d are actually racist.<\/p>\n<p>Further, Jacobson said, Cornell shouldn\u2019t adopt an \u201coffshoot of critical race theory\u201d as an official policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you read these proposals, it says that this is what it is on campus, that this is what students and faculty must accept and learn about and I think that\u2019s anti-educational,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cThat\u2019s an ideological mandate that a lot of people disagree with. It\u2019s not in the tradition of the American civil rights movement and they are adopting it as a semi-official or official University ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is so much critical race theory and anti-racism, activism, programs, administrative personnel. The campus is awash in this stuff. If students want to go and participate in that voluntarily, fine. But I don\u2019t think that should be forced on people.
