That\u2019s just people saying, \u2018Wouldn\u2019t that be great?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blunt almost joined the MCU in 2010 when she was offered the role of \u201cBlack Widow\u201d in \u201cIron Man 2\u2033 \u2013 a role that eventually went to Scarlett Johansson. Though she does not like superhero movies, she does not think they are somehow beneath her talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not that it\u2019s beneath me. It\u2019s not that because I love Iron Man,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. It would\u2019ve been amazing. But I don\u2019t know if superheroes are for me. They\u2019re not up my alley.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been exhausted. I think it\u2019s just that we are inundated. It\u2019s not only all the movies, it\u2019s the endless TV shows as well,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s not to say that I would never want to play one \u2015 it would just have to be something so cool, and like a really cool character, and then I\u2019d be interested. In general, I don\u2019t race to see superhero movies. They leave me feeling a bit cold. I can\u2019t explain it. I can\u2019t get in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The debate over superhero movies and their impact on pop culture exploded into the zeitgeist in 2019 when Academy Award-winning directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola both declared that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) \u2013 and superhero movies in general \u2013 were merely a corporate-sponsored theme park ride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried, you know? But that\u2019s not cinema,\u201d Scorsese\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/martin-scorsese-shreds-marvel-movies-says-theyre-not-cinema\">told Empire Magazine<\/a>. \u201cHonestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks.
