A spokesperson for the Michigan Secretary of State refuted the claim.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=4299163940102697&#038;set=a.698663803486080&#038;type=3&#038;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">screen grabbed May 10 tweet<\/a> reads, \u201cBREAKING: Michigan has authorized a full forensic audit of the 2020 Presidential Election.\u201d Similar claims about the state requesting a \u201cfull forensic audit\u201d have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/teri.wade.1610\/posts\/596051318035939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also circulated<\/a> on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>However, Check Your Fact didn\u2019t find any evidence such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/0,4670,7-127-1640_61055---,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michigan Department of State press releases<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=michigan+forensic+audit&#038;source=lnms&#038;tbm=nws&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=2ahUKEwiNo5Hy5b_wAhXKGFkFHQHIDg0Q_AUoAXoECAEQAw&#038;biw=1440&#038;bih=821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major news outlet reporting<\/a> to corroborate the post\u2019s claim. The Michigan Department of State has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/0,4670,7-127-1640_61055---,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not announced<\/a> the recent authorization of a \u201cfull forensic audit\u201d of the state\u2019s 2020 presidential election results in any documents on its website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is factually incorrect,\u201d Tracy Wimmer, the director of media relations for the Michigan secretary of state\u2019s office, told Check Your Fact via email. \u201cNo new audits are planned. We conducted more than 250 around the state and those were completed months ago.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/11\/05\/fact-check-michigan-found-130000-votes-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Viral Image Claims Michigan \u2018Magically Found\u2019 Over 130,000 Votes Cast For Joe Biden)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wimmer also directed Check Your Fact to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/0,4670,7-127-1640_9150-553386--,00.html#:~:text=Secretary%20of%20State%20Jocelyn%20Benson,county%2C%20city%20and%20township%20clerks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 2 press release<\/a> that said the state\u2019s election audits \u201cconfirmed the integrity and accuracy of the 2020 general election.\u201d An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/documents\/sos\/BOE_2020_Post_Election_Audit_Report_04_21_21_723005_7.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 21 report<\/a> from Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson also said that post-election audits found \u201cno examples of fraud or intentional misconduct by election officials\u201d and \u201cno evidence that equipment used to tabulate or report election results did not function properly when properly programmed and tested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The inaccurate claim has circulated amid a lawsuit that, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.record-eagle.com\/news\/antrim-county-election-lawsuit-is-one-of-the-last-in-the-nation\/article_b4ef17da-af81-11eb-8169-fbce525ebe0f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Traverse City Record-Eagle<\/a>, seeks to challenge the certified election results in Michigan\u2019s Antrim County. During the 2020 election, human error temporarily caused unofficial results to show President Joe Biden in the lead before being corrected by the county clerk, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-checking-afs:Content:9847904839\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The judge presiding over the Antrim County lawsuit is expected to make a decision about whether to dismiss the suit this month, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9and10news.com\/2021\/05\/10\/antrim-county-election-lawsuit-back-in-the-spotlight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9&#038;10 News<\/a>. The judge also granted a motion by the Michigan Secretary of State and Antrim County to void <a href=\"https:\/\/www.depernolaw.com\/uploads\/2\/7\/0\/2\/27029178\/ex_1-3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subpoenas<\/a> aimed at conducting a forensic review of Antrim County\u2019s election equipment and ballots, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/money.yahoo.com\/judge-mull-decision-antrim-election-123200018.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Traverse City Record-Eagle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan media outlets have not reported on the state recently authorizing a \u201cfull forensic audit\u201d of the state\u2019s November election results.
