Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday night, for example, blasted the president for essentially shrugging his shoulders in response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis pipeline actually doesn\u2019t touch Florida, but it does feed into many of our gas stations. So we declared a state of emergency. We\u2019re lifting restrictions to be able to get more fuel in the pumps,\u201d DeSantis told Fox News host Sean Hannity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/take-this-seriously-florida-gov-ron-desantis-slams-biden-admins-gas-shortage-response-1590701\">according<\/a> to Newsweek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden administration needs to take this seriously,\u201d the Republican demanded. \u201cTheir initial response is, \u2018Oh, this is a private pipeline,\u2019 and just shrug their shoulders. This is important infrastructure for our country, and it could impact our economy greatly if they don\u2019t respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) similarly told a Senate hearing on cybersecurity threats \u201cthat the strike on Colonial was potentially \u2018the most substantial and damaging attack on U.S. critical infrastructure ever,&#8217;\u201d DW <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/us-states-declare-emergency-over-gas-shortage-fears-following-cyberattack\/a-57501414\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina has been hit the hardest by the cyberattack, seeing about 14.7% of the state\u2019s fuel stations experiencing gasoline outages,\u00a0Fox Business <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/colonial-pipeline-gas-shortages-widen-state-by-state-breakdown\">reported<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia was hit second-hardest, with about 9.6% of the state\u2019s fuel stations reporting gasoline outages. Georgia followed, seeing 9.4% of its stations facing shortages.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Tuesday suspended the gas tax in the state to ease citizens\u2019 troubles. \u201cToday I signed an executive order suspending the gas tax in Georgia to help with higher prices as a result of the Colonial cyber attack,\u201d Kemp announced. \u201cWe are working closely with Colonial and expect for them to recover by the end of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.7540983606557\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today I signed an executive order suspending the gas tax in Georgia to help with higher prices as a result of the Colonial cyber attack. Kemp (@GovKemp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovKemp\/status\/1392128519874961408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Approximately 3.2% of the gas stations in Florida were said to be without gasoline on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/05\/11\/biden-gasoline-cyberattack-487195\">report<\/a> from left-leaning Politico, the\u00a0Biden administration \u201cis scrambling\u201d help states hurt by the cyberattacks:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18\">\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\"><em>The Biden administration is scrambling to ease the gasoline crunch that is causing scattered shortages and fears of price spikes in parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast \u2014 one of the most economically and politically worrisome consequences of the cyberattack that shuttered one of the nation\u2019s biggest fuel pipelines.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\"><em>The moves, including waivers of some environmental and labor rules to ease gasoline shipments, come as the closure of the Colonial Pipeline enters its fifth day, further straining a fuel market approaching its busiest season of the year.
