The media tried to spin the news as a bit of a win for the Biden administration because the surge in arrests of illegal aliens was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/border-apprehensions-rose-slightly-april-number-unaccompanied-minors-dropped-n1267046\">driven<\/a> in large part by single adults while the number of unaccompanied minors apprehended fell.<\/p>\n<p>Former Trump administration officials and immigration officials, however, were not falling for the spin and instead slammed the extremely high number as being disastrous for the country.<\/p>\n<p>Former senior Trump immigration adviser Stephen Miller noted that there had been more than a 1,000% increase in the number of illegal aliens apprehended on the southern border in April 2021 under Biden than in April 2020 under Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what happens you implement Catch-and-Release,\u201d Miller wrote on Twitter. \u201cThe border of the United States has been erased.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"13.451327433628\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump April 2020: 17K illegals apprehended at SW Border.<br \/>Biden April 2021: 179K illegals apprehended at SW Border.<\/p>\n<p>Increase of almost 1,000% (not even counting got aways). This doesn\u2019t include tens of thousands of got aways who sneak in without being apprehended. Disaster doesn\u2019t even begin to describe it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf responded to the new numbers by directly blaming Biden for the crisis, saying that the administration\u2019s policies, which were implemented despite warnings from top career officials, \u201chave fueled this crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administration has reversed sound immigration policies like the Migrant Protection Protocols, asylum cooperative agreements with Northern Triangle countries, and construction of the border wall system,\u201d Wolf said. \u201cThese actions will continue to have immense costs not just for our law enforcement, but for working Americans and our communities, as well. Until this administration applies a consequence for coming here illegally, these numbers are going to remain at crisis levels. Make no mistake: this is not just a humanitarian crisis on our border \u2013 it is a security crisis that is giving drug cartels and human smugglers a historic opportunity to expand their operations in the Western Hemisphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark Morgan, former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said that Biden\u2019s actions were a bigger magnet for encouraging illegal immigration to the U.S. than any \u201chalf-hearted words\u201d from the White House podium discouraging illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is clear\u2014America\u2019s borders are open,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cIf you make it to the border as an unaccompanied minor or as part of a family unit, you will likely be released into the interior. Once that happens, the Biden administration will do nothing to remove you, as the plummeting deportation numbers from ICE make clear. In fact, the Biden administration will push to give you the greatest reward of all\u2014American citizenship via amnesty\u2014in response to your lawbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James Jay Carafano, a leading national security expert, encouraged Americans to realize how badly the \u201ctsunami\u201d of illegal immigration was overwhelming law enforcement agencies which creates an opportunity for serious bad actors to \u201cexploit this vulnerability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden\u2019s policies have created a 2,000-mile toll both for the cartels, flooded them with cash, and created an unprecedented explosion in transnational crime,\u201d Carafano said. \u201cOpen borders are fueling the opioid crisis. Open borders have created an unprecedented opportunity for transnational gangs to expand their networks throughout the U.S. and Canada.
