Not to mention that the fact that all of the jobs went to men.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.7826086956522\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/staceyabrams?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@staceyabrams<\/a> on the latest jobs report: \u201cIt is insufficient for us to simply focus on the traditional masculine areas of the economy&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ABYZIFwJxV\">pic.twitter.com\/ABYZIFwJxV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tomselliott\/status\/1392167604203278336?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>\u201cIs this a clear indication that throwing money at this problem isn\u2019t working?\u201d McCain asked, in reference to the Biden administration\u2019s policy of \u201cinvestment\u201d packages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cActually, I would see it a different way,\u201d Abrams responded. \u201cWe know this is a complicated challenge, a pandemic that\u2019s affected the economy for women in devastating ways, and the notion that recovery would happen overnight is just \u2026 unfounded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInstead what we\u2019re seeing are the combination of being able to survive the pandemic and start to build toward recovery and I think that\u2019s why the <em>American Jobs Plan<\/em> and the <em>American Families Plan<\/em> were both so incredibly important because it recognizes that the \u2018economy of care\u2019 which employs so many women has got to be seen as an essential part of how we rebuild our economy and that it is insufficient for us to simply focus on the more traditional masculine areas of the economy, recognizing that we have to have women in every area, but that in particular women have been hardest hit and therefore we need intentional engagement and intervention to rebuild it back more solidly,\u201d Abrams added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abrams is correct in that, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/world-economic-forum-releases-damning-report-on-covid-19s-disproportional-impact-on-women\"><span>according<\/span><\/a><span> to the World Economic Forum, \u201c<\/span><span>the economic and societal impact of government policies imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic could disproportionately impact women, setting equality efforts back by as much as a generation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the World Economic Forum\u2019s \u201c<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www3.weforum.org\/docs\/WEF_GGGR_2021.pdf\"><span>Global Gender Gap Report<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d it was reported that \u201cEarly projections from ILO suggest 5% of all employed women lost their jobs, compared with 3.9% of employed men.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Two of Abrams\u2019 claims were arguably misleading, however. Firstly, it is subjective to claim that women have been \u201chardest hit,\u201d given that the World Economic Forum noted that \u201cin absolute terms 64 million women and 80 million men have lost their jobs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Secondly, much of the impact on women due to COVID-19 related to \u201cwork challenges,\u201d with women with children in the household the most likely to experience \u201cincreased anxiety around job security,\u201d \u201cstress due to changes in work routines and organization,\u201d or \u201cstress due to family pressures (e.g. childcare).\u201d Such \u201cchallenges\u201d fall into a broader category of families having to make employment decisions based on childcare, rather than solely the availability of employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Abrams ignored that much of the blame for these added childcare-related changes lies with the refusal of schools in Democratic-run areas to open, rather than COVID-19 itself or a lack of government intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
