Susan Collins tore into CDC Director Rochelle Walensky for \u201cundermining public confidence\u201d by confusing the public on COVID-19 guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>During a Tuesday morning hearing on Capitol Hill, Collins ripped into the CDC for what she claimed were anti-scientific and contradictory recommendations on school re-openings, wearing masks outside and summer camps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to have the utmost respect for the guidance from the CDC. I always considered the CDC to be the gold standard. I don\u2019t anymore and I want to give you three examples where I think that conflicting, confusing guidance from your agency has undermined public confidence and contradicts the scientific guidance of many experts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins began by citing the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/10\/letter-bob-good-investigate-cdc-teachers-union-american-federation-of-teachers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">widely reported story\u00a0<\/a> that the CDC\u2019s official guidance on school re-openings was influenced by America\u2019s largest teacher\u2019s union, the American Federation of Teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis came about because of an outside group that did a FOIA requests that revealed extensive the interactions between the AFT and the CDC. This has been described by Dr. Monica Gandhi, a professor who has written extensively about the coronavirus, as \u2018very very troubling\u2019 \u2026 and she says \u2018this is not how science-based guidance should work or be put together.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senator followed up by citing a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/11\/cdc-outdoor-transmission-misleading-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> from the New York Times today that found the CDC had been greatly exaggerating the threat of coronavirus transmission outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt talks about CDC guidelines on mask-wearing and where the CDC announced that less than 10% of COVID-19 transmission was occurring outdoors. The article points out that this is \u2018almost certainly misleading\u2019 and goes on to say \u2018there is not a single, documented, COVID infection anywhere in the world\u2019 from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Collins cited multiple experts who said that the CDC\u2019s guidance on summer camps were unnecessarily draconian. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/05\/anthony-fauci-scientist-cdc-summer-camp-rules-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Unfair And Cruel\u2019: One Of Fauci\u2019s Own Scientists Reportedly Slams CDC\u2019s Incoming Summer Camp Rules)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pediatric pediatric immunologist at Columbia referred to the recommendations as \u2018senseless.\u2019 The editor-in-chief of the journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics called the guidance \u2018unfairly draconian.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Collins concluded by saying that the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/10\/jeff-zients-coronavirus-vaccine-cdc-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC<\/a> pushing anti-scientific COVID-19 guidelines undermines the common sense measures Americans should be taking to prevent future outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo here we have unnecessary barriers to re-opening schools, exaggerating the risk of outdoor transmission, and unworkable restrictions on summer camps. Why does this matter?
