Proximity to Black people or being part of a marginalized group does not mean you cannot harbor bias.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Acknowledge your emotional reactions in this process, the source(s) of discomfort, and productive ways to address it. Examine and work through feelings of guilt, shame and defensiveness to understand what is beneath them and what needs to be healed.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Recognize your colleagues are also processing the ways in which the pandemic is disproportionately affecting the Black community.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>White employees are also given specific instructions on communicating with \u201cBlack colleagues\u201d and the \u201cBlack experience,\u201d as The Daily Wire noted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Do not question or debate Black colleagues\u2019 lived experience. For example, \u201care you sure they meant it that way?\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s not a race thing,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m playing devil\u2019s advocate\u2026\u201d Instead, reserve judgement and offer statements of validation if someone shares their experience.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Acknowledge and listen with empathy when Black colleagues share their lived experiences. Avoid saying, \u201cI feel you,\u201d \u201cI have been there,\u201d and instead say \u201cI hear you,\u201d \u201cTell me more about what that felt like.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Avoid conflating the Black experience with other communities of color. While other people of color are subject to racism, there is a unique history that has led to anti-Black racism and the ways in which that shows up.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The journalist who first reported the internal documents, Christopher Rufo, shared a copy of the Walt Disney Corporation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1391796784201043968?s=20\">statement<\/a> on the issue. The company says the media is \u201cdeliberately\u201d distorting the company\u2019s policy on \u201crace and discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"20\">\n<p><em>These internal documents are being deliberately distorted as reflective of company policy, when in fact their purpose was to allow diversity of thought and discussion on the incredibly complex and challenging issues of race and discrimination that we as a society and companies nationwide are facing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Disney brand has a long history of inclusivity, with stories that reflect acceptance and tolerance and celebrate people\u2019s differences, as we have consistently demonstrated in such popular films as Moana, Coco, Black Panther, Soul and Raya and the Last Dragon, and as a global entertainment company we are committed to continuing to tell stories that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Rufo, the claim that his reporting \u201cdistorted\u201d Disney\u2019s internal documents, and effectively their anti-racism program, \u201cis false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI published direct quotations, contextual screenshots, and the original source documents in their entirety,\u201d Rufo said on Twitter. \u201cDisney is distorting the truth\u2014and I won\u2019t stand for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The journalist slammed Disney\u2019s executive team, which includes four white men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI challenge Disney\u2019s executive team to walk the walk: they should complete the \u2018white privilege\u2019 checklist they provided to employees and share the results publicly,\u201d Rufo explained. \u201cOtherwise, they\u2019re fake antiracists, using buzzwords to deflect attention from their moral transgressions.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"12.513966480447\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I challenge Disney&#8217;s executive team to walk the walk: they should complete the &#8220;white privilege&#8221; checklist they provided to employees and share the results publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, they&#8217;re fake antiracists, using buzzwords to deflect attention from their moral transgressions. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WTw7VoJtTy\">pic.twitter.com\/WTw7VoJtTy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christopher F.
