That horse has never been treated with (betamethasone). Actually, it\u2019s a legal therapeutic medicine, and the amount that was in it wouldn\u2019t have any effect on the horse anyway. But we don\u2019t \u2026 that horse was never treated with that, and so that\u2019s the disturbing part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI never thought I\u2019d have to be fighting for my reputation and this poor horse\u2019s reputation. Because of the new regulations the regulators have put, they\u2019re testing these horses at contaminated levels, and it\u2019s been a horrible experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt did not happen, and that\u2019s the really seriously troubling part of it,\u201d he added. \u201c[We\u2019re hiring] investigators, but sometimes you never find out. It\u2019s just a tragedy what happened in this race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe live in a new world now. These horses don\u2019t live in a bubble,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re in an open farm. People are touching them. He went from the Derby to after the Derby, everybody\u2019s out there touching them. I mean there\u2019s so many ways these horses can get contaminated and when they\u2019re testing at these really ridiculously low levels \u2026 I\u2019ve been saying it for over a year now these are gonna get innocent people in trouble and this is what happened now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Sunday, Baffert said that after the Kentucky Derby, Medina Spirit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kentucky-derby-winner-medina-spirit-fails-post-race-drug-test-trainer-says\">tested positive<\/a> for betamethasone, a corticosteroid banned above a certain level in racing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kentucky-derby-winner-medina-spirit-fails-post-race-drug-test-trainer-says\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>Bob Baffert, who appeared with his lawyer, Craig Robertson, for a press conference at Churchill Downs, said his team has been informed that Medina Spirit was found to have 21 picograms of the steroid betamethasone, double the legal threshold in Kentucky racing. He called the finding \u201cshocking\u201d because he says Medina Spirit has \u201cnever been treated with betamethasone.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Churchill Downs released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentuckyderby.com\/uploads\/wysiwyg\/assets\/uploads\/20210509_Medina_Spirit_Statement.pdf\">statement<\/a> after the news of Medina Spirit\u2019s positive drug test, saying, \u201cGiven the seriousness of the alleged offense, Churchill Downs will immediately suspend Bob Baffert, the trainer of Medina Spirit, from entering any horses at Churchill Downs Racetrack. To be clear, if the findings are upheld, Medina Spirit\u2019s results in the Kentucky Derby will be invalidated and Mandaloun will be declared the winner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Baffert said that he hasn\u2019t heard any news about Medina Spirit\u2019s status for the Preakness Stakes, which is set for Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Craig Robertson, Baffert\u2019s attorney, told Fox News that Baffert is prepared to file a temporary restraining order (TRO) if the horse is not allowed to enter the Preakness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If a judge approves the TRO, that would make it so that Pimlico Race Course cannot ban Baffert from entering Medina Spirit in the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Robertson said he has not yet held talks with Pimlico\u2019s team, but would be \u201creaching out to them\u201d Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cHopefully they reach a decision that is one we can live with. If not, we will go to court and we will seek a TRO,\u201d he said. \u201cWe don\u2019t even have an official positive yet. Any decision to ban him, by anyone, be it Churchill or Pimlico or anyone else, is unlawful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baffert said that he thinks the Medina Spirit investigation will \u201ctake months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith all the noise \u2026 We live in a different world now. This America is different. It was like a cancel culture kind of a thing so they\u2019re reviewing it. I haven\u2019t been told anything. We\u2019re prepared to run,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe did not cheat to win the Kentucky Derby,\u201d Baffert noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI want to protect my legacy. I\u2019ve trained great horses. I\u2019ve trained the best horses that have run through there. My record proves it. This is horrible what has happened. The horse never got that medication. It\u2019s an injustice to the horse. He\u2019s a great horse. He ran hard.
