I believe we should teach history. From everything I can see and understand from the data I see, 1619 was the year that the first slave boat came from Africa to the United States. So that\u2019s a point in history that I think we should be teaching,\u201d Weingarten replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a very simplistic take on it,\u201d MacCallum pushed back immediately, saying that the 1619 project taught students that <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/23\/ohio-state-board-of-educated-sued-1619-project-critical-race-theory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1619<\/a> was the true beginning of the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/16\/donald-trump-joe-biden-education-racism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rather than 1776<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MacCallum went on to challenge some of the other assertions put forth by the 1619 Project, adding, \u201cThe reason for the revolution and the colonization was because people wanted to preserve, colonists wanted to preserve slavery. The country was founded on the basis of wanting to preserve slavery. But that is not factual. That is not true. In fact, scholars in this area say there\u2019s no evidence that colonists were motivated by that in coming to the United States. So it would be wrong as a historian to want to teach them something that is not true. Because that is the basis that sets up all of these other tenets that lead to teaching kids that we live in a systemically racist country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weingarten argued that she had spoken with author <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/26\/nikole-hannah-jones-joining-faculty-university-of-north-carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikole Hannah Jones<\/a> and had not reached the same conclusion about the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not my conclusion. That\u2019s from their work,\u201d MacCallum replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would hope that Fox would be just as focused on let\u2019s get rid of the misinformation about what happened in this election,\u201d Weingarten attempted to redirect the conversation to former President Donald Trump and his claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, come on, Randi, come on. This is not the topic. I\u2019m not going to talk about that. We talked about that before. That\u2019s a dodge. Okay?\u201d MacCallum pivoted back to education, noting that American students were falling behind in math and other subjects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m asking you \u2014 you say you\u2019re a social studies teacher. Do you favor teaching students that 1619 is more important than 1776? Do you favor that?\u201d MacCallum asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI favor us teaching about 1776, which I have often done. I favor us teaching about 1619. I also favor us teaching about the holocaust and the genocide in terms of the holocaust,\u201d Weingarten said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely. I learned about all of those things in school,\u201d MacCallum turned back to the 1619 Project then adding, \u201cThe problem is \u2014 do you think that it\u2019s wrong to suggest to children that if they\u2019re white they belong to an oppressor class and if they\u2019re black they belong to a victim class? Do you have any problem with that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we should be lifting up all ethnicities.
