Biden\u2019s remarks came after April\u2019s jobs report showed that the economy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-unemployment-rate-increases-numbers-way-worse-than-expected-talk-of-inflation-grows\">missed<\/a> expectations by more than 700,000 jobs, and the job numbers from March were significantly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-economy-gets-more-bad-news-number-of-jobs-added-in-march-gets-drastically-cut\">revised down<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we learned Friday, the economy created 266,000 jobs in April,\u201d Biden said. \u201cIn fact, altogether, since the time we took office, we\u2019ve created more than 1.5 million jobs in the country. It\u2019s the most jobs created in the first 100 days of any president on record, more than three times the solid job creation President Carter saw in his first 100 days and more than six times what President Reagan saw. And the three months before I got here, our country was creating roughly 60,000 jobs a month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler slammed Biden on Friday for similarly misleading claims when Biden tweeted out a graphic comparing the job growth during his first three months in office compared to the job growth during former President Donald Trump\u2019s first three months in office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s totally ridiculous to pretend that jobs growth in the early months of a presidency has much to do with administration policies,\u201d Kessler responded.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.4469273743017\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It&#8217;s totally ridiculous to pretend that jobs growth in the early months of a presidency has much to do with administration policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GlennKesslerWP\/status\/1390773201471430658?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>During his remarks on Monday, Biden appeared to give conflicting remarks about what was really going on. He suggested that the\u00a0receiving of generous government benefits was not the reason that people were refusing to return to work; he also repeatedly stated that people who are on government benefits must return to work if they are offered a job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to make it clear that anyone collecting unemployment, who is offered a suitable job, must take the job or lose their unemployment benefits,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThere are a few COVID-19 related exceptions, so that people aren\u2019t forced to choose between their basic safety and a paycheck, but otherwise, that\u2019s the law. I know there\u2019s been a lot of discussions since Friday\u2019s report that people are being paid to stay home rather than go to work. Well, we don\u2019t see much evidence of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t see that [stammers] \u2026 look, it\u2019s easy to say, the line has been, because of the generous unemployment benefits, that it\u2019s a major factor in labor shortages. Americans want to work,\u201d Biden claimed. \u201cI think the people who claim Americans won\u2019t work, even if they find a good and fair opportunity, underestimate the American people. So we\u2019ll insist that the law is followed with respect to benefits. But we\u2019re not going to turn our backs on our fellow Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden blamed the Trump administration for the 22 million people who lost their jobs during the pandemic, saying that the Trump administration \u201cbungled its response to the crisis and failed to protect them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies, families who are just trying to put food on the table, keep a roof over their head, they aren\u2019t the problem. We need to stay focused on the real problems in front of us, beating this pandemic and creating jobs,\u201d Biden continued. \u201cAgain, the law is clear.
