Liz Cheney as the third-ranking House Republican.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JakeSherman\/status\/1391829349096116226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a>, McCarthy said it is time to \u201cmake a change\u201d and that he had spoken with a number of his colleagues. Just hours before McCarthy\u2019s letter was sent, former President Donald Trump slammed Cheney, saying she should be ousted from House leadership and replaced by Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving heard from so many of you in recent days, it\u2019s clear that we need to make a change. Elise Stefanik To Replace Liz Cheney As House GOP Conference Chair)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since impeachment, Cheney has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/03\/liz-cheney-donald-trump-election-fraud-claims-big-lie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">continued to be vocal<\/a> about her disdain of the former president. Liz Cheney)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McCarthy was caught on a hot microphone before a hit with \u201cFox &#038; Friends,\u201d where he said on-air that Republicans are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/04\/kevin-mccarthy-house-republicans-liz-cheney-vote-impeach-donald-trump-fox-and-friends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not concerned<\/a>\u00a0about Cheney\u2019s vote to impeach Trump, but said there are concerns about her ability to serve as conference chair. However, McCarthy had some different words about Cheney off-air.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think she\u2019s got real problems,\u201d McCarthy told host Steve Doocy off-air before the interview, Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/iz-cheney-kevin-mccarthy-hot-mic-9ac0f8b7-c4ab-4c26-9d1d-1466505ae10b.html?utm_campaign=organic&#038;utm_medium=socialshare&#038;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve had it with \u2026 I\u2019ve had it with her.
