Carr demanded that the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/23\/jessica-rosenworcel-fox-news-fcc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commission<\/a> dismiss Mosby\u2019s complaint by the end of the day \u201cwith prejudice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office, led by Democrat Marilyn Mosby, has launched a chilling and direct attack on free speech and journalistic freedom,\u201d Carr said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fcc.gov\/public\/attachments\/DOC-372303A1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> on Monday. \u201cThe complaint her office filed with the FCC asks the Commission to censor a newsroom simply because journalists are doing their constitutionally protected jobs and shining a light on the work of the State\u2019s Attorney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvoking the power of the state to silence journalists for unfavorable coverage strikes at the very heart of the First Amendment,\u201d he continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/07\/baltimore-top-prosecutor-fcc-fox-news-affiliate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Baltimore\u2019s Top Prosecutor Asks FCC To Investigate Fox Affiliate Over Negative Coverage, Tucker Carlson\u2019s Show)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last week, Mosby asked the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/11\/30\/historic-chairmanship-federal-communications-commission-chairman-ajit-pai-step-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FCC<\/a> to investigate local Fox affiliate WBFF-TV over their alleged distortion of the news and bias against her in a letter to Acting FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. (Jonathan Newton\/Pool\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe coverage by the WBFF represents acts that are not merely against the public interest; they also represent acts that are inflammatory against the safety of an elected official,\u201d Mosby\u2019s Communications Director Zy Richardson wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson said that WBFF\u2019s ties to Fox News \u2013 the two are owned by the same parent company, but don\u2019t share editorial staff \u2013 is another reason the FCC should open an investigation. She specifically mentioned Fox News host Tucker Carlson\u2019s show, which she said consistently presents \u201cwhite supremacy views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, Carr noted that Mosby\u2019s request was particularly disturbing given that much of WBFF\u2019s coverage, which <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/07\/29\/five-mistakes-cost-marilyn-mosby-the-freddie-gray-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mosby<\/a> alleged was biased, was about an ongoing federal grand jury investigation into her office\u2019s potentially illegal financial dealings.<\/p>\n<p>He added that WBFF has recently won four Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for journalism excellence. One of the stories to receive an award was about Mosby.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office complaint alleges that there is \u2018troubling, abhorrent, and outright dangerous\u2019 conduct going on here,\u201d Carr said. \u201cThey are correct in this respect\u2014it is the conduct of the State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s Office that is troubling, abhorrent, and outright dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtdna.org\/article\/rtdna_fcc_letter_2021_05_10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">echoed<\/a> Carr\u2019s statement Monday. The organization sent a letter to the FCC, asking it to reject Mosby\u2019s request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal journalists across the country have a Constitutionally guaranteed obligation to serve their communities by seeking and reporting the truth, often by reporting on the public activities of public officials,\u201d RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The FCC and Mosby\u2019s office didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
