Trucking companies are paying scarce drivers more to take those materials to factories and construction sites. As a result, companies are charging more for foods and consumer products including foil wraps and disposable cups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kellogg Company Chief Executive Officer Steve Cahillane said, \u201cWe haven\u2019t seen this type of inflation in many, many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/09\/investing\/stocks-week-ahead\/index.html\">highlighted<\/a> some areas that are already seeing surges in inflation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Some are tied to commodities, which are getting snapped up as the global economy emerges from its long slumber. Lumber prices are at an all-time high thanks to an epic home-building boom. Copper and steel prices have also reached records.<\/li>\n<li>Agricultural products aren\u2019t exempt. The price of corn is at its highest level since 2012. Same goes for soybean prices. Even sales of block cheese futures have been soaring in anticipation of grilling season.<\/li>\n<li>Then there\u2019s consumer products. Diaper prices have gone up in the past year, and two major producers \u2014 Kimberly-Clark (KMB) and Procter &#038; Gamble (PG) \u2014 have warned customers that fresh hikes are coming. Shortages of computer chips, meanwhile, are helping to push up car prices, and could soon do the same for electronics and household appliances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fed Chair Jerome Powell claimed in remarks to reporters last month that the inflation will be transitory and not \u201cpersistently higher year-over-year inflation into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mo Apabhai, head of Asia trading strategy at Citigroup Global Markets said Sunday on \u201cBloomberg Daybreak: Asia\u201d that while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-unemployment-rate-increases-numbers-way-worse-than-expected-talk-of-inflation-grows\">disastrous<\/a> jobs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-economy-gets-more-bad-news-number-of-jobs-added-in-march-gets-drastically-cut\">report<\/a> on Friday may not give a lot of information about inflation, consumers should expect to see some sharp increases in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think what the commodity prices and the input prices are really telling us is that inflation short term at least is going to have some very scary numbers,\u201d Apabhai said. \u201cYou know, we\u2019re going to be, for example, this week\u2019s number in the U.S., we\u2019re looking at something like 3.6%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administration will likely spin official statistics to play down bad news,\u201d Washington Post columnist Henry Olsen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/05\/07\/biden-officials-are-playing-down-risk-inflation-dont-believe-them\/\">warned<\/a>. \u201cThis generation looks like it\u2019s going to have its own rendezvous with inflation destiny soon.
