(REUTERS\/Dado Ruvic\/File Photo)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn these cases, a type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) was seen in combination with low levels of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia),\u201d Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the CDC and Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Food and Drug Administration\u2019s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research said in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/coronavirus-live-updates\/2021\/04\/13\/986709618\/u-s-recommends-pausing-use-of-johnson-johnson-vaccine-over-blood-clot-concerns\">statement<\/a>. \u201cAll six cases occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.7860465116279\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today FDA and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CDCgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CDCgov<\/a> issued a statement regarding the Johnson &#038; Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> vaccine. Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. FDA (@US_FDA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/US_FDA\/status\/1381925613691412480?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The statement added that the CDC will convene an advisory meeting on Wednesday to discuss the six cases and offer a determination regarding future use of the Johnson &#038; Johnson vaccine. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/china-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-sinovac-gao-fu-pfizer-moderna\/\">(RELATED: China Says Its COVID-19 Vaccines Don\u2019t Work Well, Then Backtracks)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The White House issued an additional statement to reporters in which coronavirus coordinator Jeff Zients claimed the pause would not interrupt the administration\u2019s pace of vaccinations, as Johnson &#038; Johnson vaccines make up \u201cless than 5 percent of the recorded shots in arms in the United States to date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government would further surge the distribution of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to make up for the pause and pledged work with \u201cstate and federal partners to get anyone scheduled for a J&#038;J vaccine quickly rescheduled for a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adm. Brett Giroir \u2014 one of the Trump administration\u2019s top officials on the Operation Warp Speed vaccine initiative \u2014 also called the decision \u201can appropriate step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch clots occur regularly in the population, so this MAY or MAY NOT be related to the vaccine,\u201d he tweeted Tuesday morning. \u201cThat is why the investigation and pause is appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"9.625\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is an appropriate step \u2013 a pause \u2013 while the data can be evaluated.
