He called the finding \u201cshocking\u201d because he says Medina Spirit has \u201cnever been treated with betamethasone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday I got the biggest gut-punch in racing for something I didn\u2019t do,\u201d Baffert\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paulickreport\/status\/1391384369420439555\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> reporters\u00a0at Churchill Downs in Louisville. \u201cIt\u2019s disturbing. It\u2019s an injustice to the horse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel embarrassed, I feel like I was wronged,\u201d said Baffert.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re going to show them everything. One thing about it in California, everything is documented every day what the horse gets. This horse was never treated with that. He\u2019s a great horse, he doesn\u2019t deserve this. He ran a gallant race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a conspiracy theorist, I know everybody\u2019s not out to get me, but there\u2019s definitely something wrong,\u201d Baffert said. \u201cWhy is it happening to me? There\u2019s problems in racing, but it\u2019s not Bob Baffert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThis shouldn\u2019t have happened. There\u2019s a problem somewhere. It didn\u2019t come from us. \u2026 I\u2019m worried about our sport. Our sport, we\u2019ve taken a lot of hits as a sport. These are pretty serious accusations here, but we\u2019re going to get to the bottom of it and find out. We know we didn\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medina Spirit has not yet been disqualified as the winner, Baffert said, adding that another sample is scheduled. \u201cIf an appeal is unsuccessful, Medina Spirit would be stripped of the Kentucky Derby crown as well as the winning prize money,\u201d CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/09\/sport\/medina-spirit-betamethasone-bob-baffert\/index.html\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Medina Spirit won the Kentucky Derby on May 1 by a half-length over Mandaloun. The drug is an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that is allowed in horse racing at a certain level, said the AP. While it is not banned, a horse must be off the drug within 14 days of racing.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><i>Last month, Baffert\u00a0won an appeals case\u00a0before the Arkansas Racing Commission, which had suspended him for 15 days for a pair of positive drug tests involving two of his horses that won at Oaklawn Park on May 2, 2020.
