Dogecoin was mentioned on multiple occasions during the show. However, during Musk\u2019s episode of the comedy series, the price of dogecoin plummeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During Musk\u2019s monologue, dogecoin was mentioned briefly as the SpaceX CEO was joined by his mother, Maye, on stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019m excited for my mother\u2019s day gift. So what is dogecoin?\u201d asked Che, again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After both Che and co-host Colin Jost continued to ask what dogecoin is, Musk was eventually asked whether dogecoin was a \u201chustle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYeah, it\u2019s a hustle,\u201d Musk said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo the moon!\u201d Musk added, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/dogecoin-plunges-nearly-30-percent-during-elon-musk-s-snl-n1266774\"><span>using<\/span><\/a><span> \u201c<\/span><span>a catchphrase popular among doge enthusiasts intent on driving the value of the cryptocurrency to one dollar.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/09\/investing\/dogecoin-elon-musk-snl\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> reported, \u201c<\/span><span>After pumping up the value of the cryptocurrency in the lead-up to Musk\u2019s SNL appearance, investors sold off dogecoin sharply after the Musks talked about it on the show. Dogecoin was down 40%, trading as low as 44 cents early Sunday. The cryptocurrency started Saturday trading at around 70 cents and was selling for about 66 cents just before SNL went on the air at 11:30 pm ET.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dogecoin was apparently being traded so \u201cactively\u201d that Robinhood, the popular trading app, announced that they were experiencing \u201cissues.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Update: We\u2019re currently experiencing issues with crypto trading. Last month, the trading platform said customers experienced \u2018sporadic crypto order failures\u2019 during a dogecoin rally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Since January, dogecoin has increased in value by more than 12,000%, and has gained 800% in May. As of the morning of May 9, the coin is priced at $0.5044470, representing a 24-hour drop of 29.73%.
