(Pete Marovich\/Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If unions spent the same percentage of dues on political contributions as they did in 2020, their political contributions per two-year election cycle would rise to $3 billion after the PRO Act is passed, according to the IAW report. Unions gave $791 million in political donations in 2020 with nearly 90% of the money going to Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The House <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/09\/house-pro-union-protecting-the-right-to-organize-act-business-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> the PRO Act and President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/03\/09\/statement-by-president-joe-biden-on-the-house-taking-up-the-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promised<\/a> to sign it if delivered to his desk. However, the bill faces continued roadblocks in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a federation of 55 unions and 12.5 million total members, has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/speeches\/trumka-calls-pro-act-2020s-most-significant-piece-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> the legislation, saying it would allow American workers to exercise their \u201cmost fundamental rights on the job.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/pro\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThe%20PRO%20Act%20would%20put,safer%20workplace%20they%20have%20earned.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Several<\/a> other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibew.org\/media-center\/Articles\/21Daily\/2103\/210316_Reform#:~:text=The%20PRO%20Act%20would%20deregulate,a%20company's%20suppliers%20and%20vendors.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major unions<\/a> have also <a href=\"https:\/\/uaw.org\/statement-uaw-president-rory-l-gamble-house-passage-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">strongly supported<\/a> the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/05\/business-worker-trades-groups-reintroduction-union-pro-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bill<\/a>\u00a0would remove workers\u2019 ability to vote against unionization via secret ballot elections, threatens the ability for a workforce to kick a union out, redefines legal definition of independent contractors and forces non-union workers to pay union dues.<\/p>\n<p>Union membership has dipped considerably over the last 40 years, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/union2.nr0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Labor<\/a>. Roughly 11% of American workers were members of a labor union as of January compared to 20% in 1983.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/01\/americans-for-prosperity-joe-biden-international-brotherhood-of-electrical-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">included several pro-union policies<\/a> in his $2 trillion infrastructure plan that he <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/31\/joe-biden-infrastructure-plan-trump-tax-corporate-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unveiled<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it\u2019s about rebuilding America \u2014 rebuilding in a way that it has resilience,\u201d Biden said in a speech about his infrastructure plan on Thursday. \u201cAnd the folks who are going to rebuild it are those folks right over there: unions.
