In solidarity with U.S. protests, we are seeing similar protests due to police brutality targeted to Black people around the world. The current unrest represents a tipping point and heightened awareness of the movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another section in the training explains to employees that \u201cDeepening your insight and knowledge is a critical first step to understanding the magnitude and complexity of the current state and building empathy to authentically connect with your colleagues.\u201d The section includes two bullet points for how white employees should educate themselves about systemic racism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake ownership of educating yourself about structural anti-Black racism in the current and historical context. Opt for sources from Black authors, journalists and organizations,\u201d says the first bullet point, directing employees to a list of resources elsewhere in the documents. \u201cDo not rely on your Black colleagues to educate you,\u201d reads the second bullet point. \u201cThis is emotionally taxing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, white employees at Disney are asked questions like, \u201cHow can you effect change in your sphere of influence?\u201d and \u201cIs there an opportunity to share your learning with other allies?\u201d They are then told to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Reflect on the diversity of your personal and professional networks and how racial and other dimensions of your identity give (or do not give) you access and advantage. Proximity to Black people or being part of a marginalized group does not mean you cannot harbor bias.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Acknowledge your emotional reactions in this process, the source(s) of discomfort, and productive ways to address it. Examine and work through feelings of guilt, shame and defensiveness to understand what is beneath them and what needs to be healed.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Recognize your colleagues are also processing the ways in which the pandemic is disproportionately affecting the Black community.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>White employees are also told:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Do not question or debate Black colleagues\u2019 lived experience. For example, \u201care you sure they meant it that way?\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s not a race thing,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m playing devil\u2019s advocate\u2026\u201d Instead, reserve judgement and offer statements of validation if someone shares their experience.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Acknowledge and listen with empathy when Black colleagues share their lived experiences. Avoid saying, \u201cI feel you,\u201d \u201cI have been there,\u201d and instead say \u201cI hear you,\u201d \u201cTell me more about what that felt like.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Avoid conflating the Black experience with other communities of color. While other people of color are subject to racism, there is a unique history that has led to anti-Black racism and the ways in which that shows up.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a section titled \u201cLooking Forward: Equity, Not Equality,\u201d Disney tells employees that while \u201cEquality is a noble goal,\u201d we should really \u201cbe striving for equity, where we focus on the equality of the outcome, not the equality of the experience by taking individual needs and skills into account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Rufo reported, Disney also sponsored a \u201c21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge,\u201d which told participants they have \u201call been raised in a society that elevates white culture over others.\u201d Participants are then asked to complete a \u201cwhite privilege checklist,\u201d which includes \u201cI am white,\u201d \u201cI am heterosexual,\u201d \u201cI am a man,\u201d \u201cI still identity as the gender I was born in,\u201d \u201cI have never been raped,\u201d \u201cI work in a salaried job,\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t rely on public transportation,\u201d and \u201cI have never been called a terrorist.\u201d Other selections include: \u201cI graduated high school,\u201d \u201cMy parents are both alive,\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ve used prescription drugs recreationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Rufo reported, Participants in the challenge were told they must \u201cpivot\u201d from \u201cwhite dominant culture\u201d to \u201csomething different.\u201d Like many other so-called anti-racism training materials, the documents from Disney insist that \u201ccompetition,\u201d \u201cindividualism,\u201d \u201ctimeliness,\u201d and \u201ccomprehensiveness,\u201d are values that \u201cperpetuate white supremacy culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In order to combat this culture, Disney suggests employees read a guide called \u201c75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice,\u201d which recommends white people \u201cdefund the police,\u201d \u201cparticipate in reparations,\u201d and \u201cdecolonize your bookshelf,\u201d meaning, add more books from non-white authors.<\/p>\n<p>And, as with so many trainings claiming to be \u201canti-racist,\u201d Disney has launched \u201caffinity groups,\u201d which segregate people by race and tell white people they are responsible for the ills of society.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
