Liz Cheney (R-WY) will likely be stripped of her number-three leadership position in the Republican party as early as next week. She also faces an upcoming election battle for her Congressional seat, with \u201cTrump\u2019s political team vetting\u201d a \u201cgrowing list\u201d of primary challengers for the 2022 elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s all but certain that as early as next week House Republicans will strip Rep. Liz Cheney of her number-three GOP leadership position \u2014 but Cheney faces another major headache back home in Wyoming, as Republicans are plotting to oust her as the state\u2019s lone representative in Congress when she\u2019s up for re-election next year,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/liz-cheney-house-republican-leadership-job-wyoming-challenge\"><span>Fox News<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fox also noted that Cheney, \u201cthe most high profile of the 10 House Republicans to vote in January to impeach then-President Trump,\u201d might benefit from a crowded primary field which \u201clikely divides the anti-Cheney and pro-Trump vote.\u201d Trump himself warned against this scenario, saying \u201cher only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February 2021, Trump called for Cheney\u2019s removal, saying \u201chopefully they\u2019ll get rid of her with the next election.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite growing pressure, Cheney doubled down on her position earlier this week in an op-ed for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/05\/05\/liz-cheney-republican-party-turning-point\/\"><span>The Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span> titled, \u201cThe GOP is at a turning point. History is watching us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Republican Party is at a turning point, and Republicans must decide whether we are going to choose truth and fidelity to the Constitution,\u201d Cheney wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While Cheney is deeply unpopular among many on the Right, some conservatives have defended the Wyoming Congresswoman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During a Wednesday monologue on \u201cThe View,\u201d Meghan McCain <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/meghan-mccain-on-calls-to-oust-liz-cheney-shiving-her-for-refusing-to-debase-herself-to-trump\"><span>slammed<\/span><\/a><span> House Republicans for contemplating replacing GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhat\u2019s happening is \u2014 it\u2019s very clear, and I\u2019m going to be a little crass \u2014 they\u2019re shiving her for her going on television multiple times and saying the election wasn\u2019t stolen and for refusing to debase herself to Cheeto Jesus,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI have spent the past five years of my life trying to accept, understand, and include the MAGA base of this party, and the message that\u2019s being sent by the highest member[s] of Republicans in Congress is that women like me and Liz Cheney, who refuse to bend the knee to President Trump, but still remain loyal Republicans, we don\u2019t have a place in this party. We are worthless; we are not worth fighting for to keep,\u201d McCain added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/house-republicans-ready-vote-trump-critics-leadership-post-sources-2021-05-04\/\"><span>Reuters<\/span><\/a><span>, Republicans could vote as early as May 12, \u201c<\/span><span>their next scheduled meeting after a two-week break, adding that \u201cCheney, of Wyoming, survived a February party conference ballot with 145 caucus members voting to keep her in her role and 61 calling for her removal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month\u2019s end,\u201d a top Rep. McCarthy ally <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/551548-mccarthy-allies-take-aim-at-cheney\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Monday. \u201cWhen there is a vote, it won\u2019t be a long conference; it will be fast.
