Kueng, and Tou Thao. Last month, a Minneapolis jury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-jury-finds-derek-chauvin-guilty\">found<\/a> Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChauvin is charged with violating Floyd\u2019s right to be free from unreasonable seizure and unreasonable force by a police officer. Thao and Kueng are also charged with violating Floyd\u2019s right to be free from unreasonable seizure, alleging they did not intervene to stop Chauvin as he knelt on Floyd\u2019s neck. All four officers are charged for their failure to provide Floyd with medical care,\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/george-floyd-officers-charged-6d87b905692ddfa9594b36c876366f4b\">Associated Press<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>In a second indictment, Chauvin is also charged with civil rights violations from the arrest of a 14-year-old boy in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The indictments against the four former officers comes after reports that the Biden administration was seeking to charge the officers with civil rights violations. The Department of Justice reportedly wanted Chauvin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-doj-was-going-to-arrest-derek-chauvin-in-court-if-jury-found-him-innocent-report\">arrested<\/a> on civil rights charges outside of a Minneapolis court house should he have been found innocent by the jury in the trial over Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The other officers involved in Floyd\u2019s arrest last year have yet to face trial, though they are scheduled in court this summer. Lane, Kueng, and Thao have been charged with aiding and abetting each of Chauvin\u2019s crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin\u2019s attorney, Eric Nelson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/derek-chauvins-attorney-files-motion-for-new-trial\">appealed<\/a> the jury\u2019s verdict earlier this week, alleging misconduct on the part of the court as well as by members of the jury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court abused its discretion when it failed to sequester the jury for the duration of the trial, or in the least, admonish them to avoid all media, which resulted in jury exposure to prejudicial publicity regarding the trial during the proceedings, as well as jury intimidation and potential fear of retribution among jurors, which violated Mr. Chauvin\u2019s constitutional rights to due process and to a fair trial,\u201d Nelson\u2019s Tuesday filing says.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/derek-chauvins-attorney-files-motion-for-new-trial\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"22.573635427394\">\n<p><em>Although Nelson did not give specific details in the filing, Judge Peter Cahill previously said that Chauvin\u2019s team may have grounds to overturn the trial on appeal in light of public remarks from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Nelson also argued that the court violated Chauvin\u2019s rights by not ordering Morries Hall \u2014 the man in the car with Floyd before his death \u2014 to testify at the trial or to submit into evidence \u201chis statements to law enforcement regarding his\u201d interaction with Floyd.\u00a0According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/14\/us\/morries-hall-fifth-amendment.html#:~:text=via%20Court%20TV-,Morries%20Lester%20Hall%2C%20who%20was%20in%20a%20car%20with%20George,called%20to%20testify%20on%20Wednesday.\">The New York Times<\/a>, Hall invoked the Fifth Amendment during the trial after his lawyer argued that Hall\u2019s testimony could expose him to drug-related charges.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chauvin\u2019s attorney, separately, also requested a hearing to throw out the court\u2019s verdict \u201con the grounds that the jury committed misconduct, felt threatened or intimidated, felt race-based pressure during the proceedings, and\/or failed to adhere to instructions during deliberations.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
